write a brief two paragraph analysis – word limit for the
essay portion ~300-500 words – of the Langston Hughes poem “The Weary Blues” (on pages
1073 to 1074 in the Norton Introduction to Literature, shorter 13th ed.). Your analysis should
clearly state what you believe the message/meaning of this poem is, and then explain how the
structure and poetic devices used in this poem contribute to this poem’s message/meaning. There
should be at least one quote from the poem in each of these two paragraphs.
As usual, write this in MLA format – double-spaced, with header in the top left corner, 1″
margins – and when quoting from the poem, use the proper MLA in-text citation format; also
include the Works Cited format for the poem from the Norton textbook after your essay portion
of the final exam.
The due date for this is midnight of May 6, 2022; to accommodate students’ work
schedules, submissions will be accepted until May 8th, 2022 without penalty.
However, no submissions of the essay portion of the final exam will be accepted after May
8th, 2022.
