Theory of Cognitive Development – Psychology Essay

Theory of Cognitive Development – Psychology Essay. In chapter six of the book, McDevitt and Ormrod (2013) explore cognitive development using the Piaget theory. Children have been described by Piaget as learners who are more active than adults. Children can construct an amazing world around them. Piaget documented four different stages of cognitive development. The sensorimotor stage is the first phase of cognitive development. During this stage, perception and behavioral patterns are the main cognitive functions. The preoperational stage is the second phase of development. During this phase, the prevalence of language and symbolic thoughts can be witnessed among children. Concrete operation is the third phase of development. The stage is associated with the gradual emergence of logical reasoning. Finally, the formal operations stage marks the last phase of development. A child is capable of developing simple logical thinking and making a sound hypothesis. The cognitive theory of development developed by Vygotsky asserts that when children are assisted by seniors to carry out challenging tasks, their cognitive development is greatly enhanced. From the above summary, it is evident that the development of a child passes through various levels or phases. While adults have a stronger cognitive ability than children, it is surprising to note that children have been identified as faster learners than adults. The cognitive development theory by Piaget is a clear indication of how children swiftly transform themselves from one stage to another. I have personally witnessed the aspect of rapid-learning ability in children. It can take a child a very short time to acquire some form of simple knowledge compared to an adult. On the same note, children who are assisted by adults to maneuver around difficult tasks are highly likely to develop more stable cognitive abilities than children who are left to struggle on their own. In fact, it is the role of parents, guardians, and caregivers to mold the desired behavioral patterns in children while they are transiting from one stage of development to another. Chapter seven of the book explores a number of subthemes such as basic cognitive processes, cognitive strategies, and meta-cognition, information processing theory and the cultural element, construction of theories by children, modern perspectives in cognitive development, and information processing as well as the associated exceptionalities (McDevittTheory of Cognitive Development – Psychology Essay

Censorship of Social Networking Sites in Developing Countries Exploratory Essay

Table of Contents Introduction Background Arguments Conclusion List of References Introduction Social networks have become powerful tools in the lives of many people in third world countries. Social media sites are where people go to acquire knowledge and ideas from other individuals. People use them as platforms through which they communicate with their relatives and friends. Social media sites are relatively cheap means of communication in third world countries. However, the question has been the extents to which one can exercise freedom via the sites. Freedom of social media sites is only possible in democratic countries. Censorship of social media sites is the control of information that is available to users. In many cases, governments control the activities of social media sites. However, other people and institutions can also censor social media sites (Rangwala 2011, pp. 1). This is paper discusses the censorship of social media sites in third world countries. It also determines reasons for the implementation of censorship policies in the third world countries. Background Social networks make it easy for people to obtain and distribute information rapidly. However, dictatorial regimes cannot tolerate the idea of free flow of information. Many dictatorial regimes are in third world countries. Such regimes have noted the impacts that social media sites have on human societies. In Tunisia, the actions of a fruit vendor sparked protests in the entire country. The death of the vendor sparked protests in Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Syria and Iran. The protests spread to other countries through information passed via social media sites (Diamond

a. i. As explained in Sections 3.2.2 and 4.4.2 of Block 3, urban environments are more obstructive to radio waves than rural environments, leading to reduced base station (BS) range. This can however be of benefit in urban areas where there is high demand for cellular communication services. Briefly explain, in no more than 100 words, why reduced BS range can be advantageous in this context.(5 marks)ii.Home automation is an example application of an Internet of Things (IoT) network, in which various mains and battery-operated sensors and devices are controlled from either inside a house or from a remote location. While Wi-Fi is common in domestic settings, it has limitations in effectively supporting IoT devices in the home, which has led to alternative short-range, low-power, low-data networks, like ZigBee, being proposed for home automation purposes.Based on what you have learnt in Block 3, write a summary, on the requirements for a home automation IoT network (see Section 4.5, P214), discussing whether Wi-Fi is the best network option, by considering radio coverage, power consumption, cost and convenience. You should also outline how, in using ZigBee as a home automation network, some of the Wi-Fi issues you have identified, are addressed. The maximum word limit is 250 words.(10 marks)b.A mobile base station (BS) in an urban environment has a power measurement of 15 µW at 175 m. If the propagation follows an inverse cube-power law (Section 3.2.2), what is a reasonable power value, in µW, to assume at a distance 0.7 km from the BS? Give your answer in scientific notation to 2 decimal places.(5 marks)c.An analogue signal is sampled every 160 µs to convert it into a digital representation. What is the corresponding sampling rate expressed in kHz?According to the Sampling Theorem (Section 3.3.1), for this sampling rate, what will approximately be the highest frequency present in the signal, in kHz, assuming the lowest frequency is very close to zero? If each sample is quantised into 128 levels, what will be the resulting bitrate in bps?Give your answer in scientific notation to 2 decimal places.Hint: you will first need to determine the number of bits per sample that produces 128 quantisation levels (see Sections 2.4 (Block 1) and 3.3.2 (Block 3)).(5 marks)d.The 7-bit ASCII code for the character ‘T’ is: 1010100An even parity check bit is now appended to the end of the code so 8 bits are transmitted. What will be the transmitted code for the ASCII character ‘T’? If even parity check bits are used, which of the following 8-bit received ASCII codes are invalid?i.10001110 ii.11011111iii.01110110iv.11011011 (5 marks)
