Theory Application Paper:

Blue Rage, Black Redemption

After reading (at least) the Part I of Blue Rage, Black Redemption, construct a Theory Application Paper that addresses each of the following elements. Although each of the elements below must be included, this paper should be written in traditional essay format (i.e., do not bullet point the responses). This paper should be between 1,250 and 1,500 words (not including the reference page), and careful proofread. APA citations should be included where appropriate, and a reference page should be attached at the end of the document. The paper must be formatted in an easy to read 12-point font. The document must be left-aligned and double-spaced with 1-inch margins. The rubric for this paper can be found on the Canvas assignment dropbox.

Summary

In one to two paragraphs, briefly summarize Blue Rage, Black Redemption (no more than 250 words). This section will provide a concise and clear summary of the material. Information should be presented holistically, and in a way that draws together the main premise of the book.

Theory Application

Identify one theory from this class that fits most closely with explaining why Stanley “Tookie” Williams engaged in the behaviors that he did. Briefly explain the main tenets of this theory, and then connect at least three specific examples from the book that bolster why this theory is appropriate in explaining Stanley’s behaviors. Several examples should be used to highlight support for this theory, and the student should explicitly state how these examples connect with the selected theory.

Alternative Outcomes and Conclusion

In this section, using the same theory discussed above, explain what types of situations would have resulted in Stanley living a “conventional” lifestyle, in which he did not engage in offending. Be sure to provide evidence from the book, as well as from other class materials. Lastly, provide a short conclusion that ties up any loose ends and draws the paper to a close.
