the Shopify case at the end of Chapter 6 (page 180-181). Upon thorough review of the case, you will then answer the (4) questions for discussion regarding the case in essay format. It is not sufficient to state your opinions alone; you must be able to back up your responses by applying marketing concepts from the text with the case data that supports your findings.
Through writing this case study you will be required to demonstrate a knowledge of how to integrate marketing concepts with the case data, how to conduct research, and how to properly cite sources using APA formatting guidelines. You will be responsible for using a minimum of 2 scholarly/peer-reviewed sources. Textbooks are not considered scholarly/peer-reviewed sources; however, they may still be included as a supplemental reference. You will also be responsible for writing the case study in an essay format (introduction paragraph, body paragraphs, and conclusion paragraph).
Be as thorough as possible when writing your responses, and remember, this is an academic assignment, so no “text-talk,” no conversational tone, and ABOVE ALL OTHER THINGS… don’t plagiarize!! Lastly, spell-check and proofread your work! Failure to follow these steps will negatively impact your grade.
For this course, you will submit the graded activity using Turnitin. An Originality Report will become available within a few minutes after your first submission. Inside the Originality Report will be a Similarity Index. The Similarity Index shows a percentage of the material in your paper that matches other sources found by Turnitin. You will be expected to have a Similarity Index of less than 15%. If your Similarity Index is greater than 15% you will need to review your Originality Report to be sure that you have paraphrased your work appropriately, and cited your sources correctly.

The Originality Report will help you to avoid plagiarism and improve the quality and content of your essay. It is strongly suggested that you keep direct quotations to a minimum, and never copy and paste text without proper citations. You have until the activity due date to resubmit your work, however, there will be a 24-hour delay before the Originality Report becomes available. It is your responsibility to submit your activity on time, with a Similarity Index of less than 15%.
The case study should have an APA title page and an APA reference page. An APA abstract page is NOT required! The case study is also expected to be at least 1 complete page in length (not including the title page/reference page).
Upload the assignment as a Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) document using the following naming protocol:

Minimum Wage What do you believe the federal minimum wage should be?

Minimum Wage What do you believe the federal minimum wage should be?.

Current Events Paper 2 – Minimum Wage What do you believe the federal minimum wage should be? Be sure to take a sociological perspective and reference the concept of living wage while crafting a 2-page argument. Background Information: During the 2013 State of the Union Address, President Barack Obama urged Congress to raise the minimum wage to $9 an hour, “This single step would raise the incomes of millions of working families…It could mean the difference between groceries or the food bank; rent or eviction; scraping by or finally getting ahead.” Donald Trump chimed in on July 27, 2016, “The minimum wage has to go up…But I think…that states should really call the shot…At the same time, people have to be taken care of.” Despite these declarations from both sides of the aisle, the federal minimum wage has remained stagnant at $7.25 since July 24th, 2009. Proponents contend that the current minimum wage fails to meet the requirements to have a basic quality of life and leaves families reliant on government programs for additional income. Instead, they call for the institution of a living wage, or the minimum income necessary for a worker to meet their needs that are considered to be basic with respect to geographic location. They argue that with a living wage an individual can take pride in their work and enjoy the decency of a life beyond the ditch of poverty wages. Since a living wage is a complete consideration of the cost of living in an area, it fluctuates according to where you live and the size of your family [you can find a living wage calculator at http://livingwage.mit.edu/ ].

Opponents say a higher minimum wage will hurt jobs. Their argument is that employers will hire fewer people or reduce their hours to maintain lower operating costs. They may compensate for the extra expense in other ways that can hurt consumers, such as by raising prices. Instead, many argue that wages should be dictated by the free market, whatever a worker is worth, rather than by any government-imposed limits. During his presidential campaign, Trump said that while he does not know how people survive on $7.25 an hour, he wants states to decide what their minimum wage is because “states have to compete with each other.”
