The case on “Shackleton and the Endurance Expedition” describes how Shackleton led his group of followers toward the South Pole, only to have disaster overcome them. In leading them, Shackleton made two key decisions: First, when the whalers at the South Georgia whaling station indicated that the pack ice was so thick that year that it could trap the ship if the expedition continued into the Weddell Sea, Shackleton nevertheless made the decision to go on with the expedition. Second, when the ship was trapped in the ice where it was eventually destroyed, Shackleton made the decision to abandon the expedition objectives and from that point on spent his efforts making sure his men survived and did not succumb to despair. Using the ETHICS OF CARE APPROACH, evaluate the ethics of both of these decisions. Your paper should be about one page long (about 250 words), but if you think it is necessary, you may use up to two pages. Your paper should indicate whether or not each of these two decisions of Shackleton AND the way that he carried out those two decisions, fulfilled the requirements of an Ethic of Care. Again, your paper MUST use the CARE APPROACH as part of your explanation of whether these two decisions, and the way Shackleton carried them out, were ethical.
I am extremely familiar with the case “Shackleton and the Endurance Expedition.” So, you SHOULD NOT RECOUNT THE EVENTS OF THE CASE! Just answer the question, and assume I thoroughly know everything that happened in the case, so you do not have to explain anything in the case to me in your paper.
