The American Dream: Dead or Alive? academic essay help Biology

“The American Dream says that anything can happen if you work hard enough at it and are persistent, and have some ability. The sky is the limit to what you can build, and what can happen to you and your family”, said Sanford Weill. The tradition of the American Dream has always been based on the way people live out their lives. Although, throughout these past years some believe that the American Dream has died off. Many blame themselves for their own failure, and others blame the economy and government.

The American Dream is dead because of college debt, the economy, and the individual liberty of everyday citizens. In dealing with the American Dream, most students have been known as the ones struggling the most. This year, and for the past couple of years, college debt has been a big struggle for students trying to achieve their own American Dream. The unprecedented levels of student debt have conspired to shatter the traditional American Dream. Since the student debt is rising it leads to parents’ ability to pay without restoring the debt is slowly reclining.

Michelle, who is a freshman in college, is concerned about the financial burden her education is placing on her and her family (Wallechinsky, 2). As opposed to many other things the cost of college degree has grown three times the rate of inflation since the late 1970’s. You can tell that the American Dream is dead to them because of the struggle that is being out upon them. Although some blame others for their non-achievements, many people take full responsibility and blame themselves for not making it the way they had planned to.

Individual economic success begins with self-seeking motives. That all ended with benefiting society- in order to create the American Dream (Herald, 1). Students and families put themselves into deeper situations by doing bigger things than they can actually handle. Some of the middle classed people take full responsibility for their financial success and even failure (Wallechinsky, 2). If you can’t focus and do the things that you want to achieve in life, why waste your time to blame others for what you didn’t do to help yourself. The blame cannot always be tossed upon other individuals.

Many of these individuals are responsible for their own character and preparation (Jilson, 1). Achieving the American Dream that you think is dead isn’t that hard, but if you choose not to help yourself for something you strive for, you might as well say good-bye to your own dream. In this case there is no on to really blame but yourself in such situations. Besides other strong problems that concern people not achieving their American Dream, economic values and problems have also been a big impact on the argument of the American Dream being dead.

Ever since the recession, the employment among people who did not attend college has been flat (Francis, 1). So, this leading to the fact of people who had lost their jobs can’t seem to find new ones, and the everyday economy is making it harder and harder for them. The economy is starting to get worse and worse leading to skilled workers losing their jobs over small things, sometimes for the worst reasons, for example, age. Companies terminated hard workers at a certain age, even with perfect attendance, and no performance problems what so ever.

According to the excerpt on if the American Dream is still possible, David Wallechinsky point out that the savings rate for Americans is the lowest it has ever been in these past 73 years. This problems is because most people are saying that there is not much left to save after they have paid all of their bills. “The American Dream changes based on where you are in life” (McLaughlin, 1). The economy has killed almost everyone’s views and goals in achieving the American Dream.

Is it possible that the economy should be the blame of most Americans not reaching the goals that they desired in the beginning? The American Dream is known to be dead because of the college debt that most students are stuck in, individual liberty of citizens, and the economy that we have becomes stuck in. “The American Dream is a constant reminder that America’s true nature and distinctive grandeur is in promising the common man, the man on the make, a better chance to succeed her than common men enjoy anywhere else on earth”, said Cal Jilson in an excerpt from his book Pursuing the American Dream.

In achieving the American Dream, people struggle with reaching goals because of student debt/loans, struggles within their own messed up economy, and also dealing with the fact that they’re not successful because it is their very own fault. Some may argue that the dream is alive because of the hard working citizens that are still out there. But in fact, with providing good evidence and support the dream has died.
