I’ll provide feedback and guidance on scope, research material options and data options.
You have the option of submitting this as an individual assignment or as a group assignment. If you choose to work in a group, all members must upload the proposal to Blackboard (same proposal but everyone uploads it) for tracking and accountability.
PRO TIP: there is a *significant* amount of additional, recommended materials available in the weekly modules you are free to use to springboard your research as well as in the Disinformation Research Resources board . These are meant to help you deep dive into a topic and not reinvent the wheel in research. Please take advantage of these.
You can use the quantitative databases there if you are interested in doing a quantitative data analysis of disinformation (which is a good option for those interested in building data analysis skills).
You can also do a research report on a particular topic highlighted in the modules for the course – we could spend a full 15 weeks on each module (!) so this is your opportunity to deep dive in an area that particularly interests you.
Other options that may be of interest: doing research and threat assessment of a particular XRW terrorist group, doing a research and threat assessment on a particular conspiracy theory, doing a case study of political and election violence in a country we haven’t studied as one of our case studies, looking at how gender is weaponized by XRW extremist groups (through misogyny, through recruitment), looking at
particular cybercrimes that leverage fake news (such as ransomware, APTs, online trafficking), looking at the rise of 3D printed weapons in extremist networks, etc etc etc. These are just ideas to get you thinking!

Rearrange Your Problem and Evaluate Solutions Through the Human Resources and Political Perspectives.

Rearrange Your Problem and Evaluate Solutions Through the Human Resources and Political Perspectives..

Think back to the problem you chose in Week 3. Now imagine that you are a member of the diversity committee of your educational institution. If you are not working in education, it is fine to imagine a plausible scenario in education that covers all the prompts. You have been asked to make a presentation to the top-ranking administrator (principal, superintendent, university president, or board of directors) regarding how your problem intersects with the issue of diversity. By doing this assignment, you will apply the human resources and political frames to your problem in a diverse educational setting. First, you need to provide some definitions for the audience. Start by defining diversity. Next, consider that some individuals and organizations are moving toward the phrase “equity and inclusion.” Define equity and inclusion. Instead of offering dictionary definitions, describe what those words mean to you. Are equity and inclusion equivalent in meaning to diversity? Why or why not? Why might someone prefer the words equity and inclusion over the word diversity? Is equity the same thing as equality? Give a reason for your answer. Now think about your problem. Describe to the top-ranking administrator the steps you are taking to contemplate the problem through the lenses of equity and inclusion. How would the concepts of equity and inclusion change the way you would evaluate possible solutions to the problem you identified in Week 3? Finally, how would equity and inclusion change your decision to recommend or reject possible solutions to the problem? Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as speaker notes for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists.
