Screen the following Jeff Curtow YouTube lecture video below on James Van Der Zee and discuss how he used photography to study his own culture and to inform the world about it. Consider how his works teach us about the time and place he lived in. Discuss Van Der Zee’s goals and compositional style, and analyze any two of his photographs. Be sure to properly identify each work by title and connect how it applies to discussion.
