Read this article:Strong Women Teachers: Their Struggles and Strategies for Gender Equity “That women dominate as classroom teachers – yet gender equity has not received much attention in teacher educations programs – is testament to the historic devaluation of females in the teacher profession and a blindness to the gender and racial bias in the social, economics, and political structure of schools” (McCormick, 2006, p. 2). That’s how this very big and stuffed full of information article starts. Wow! It’s a fairly short piece but it is packed with so many points. And it’s organized in a confusing way as it was pulled from a textbook. So here’s what I want you so skip all those “INTERACTION 1.1:”, etc. So the minute you see INTERACTION – skip it. After that, there is usually a heading “WHAT WE KNOW” – read those!I think the most interest thread in this article is: “the historic devaluation of females in the teacher profession”. Do something with that. Take 2-3 of the topics (sexism, wages, suffrage, women’s gains, women’s rights, alliance groups, feminism…) and run it through that ‘devaluation of females’ lens. Pick ones that interest you. No set way to do this – shape it how you want and make your case in your discussion. Comment on two of your fellow students. (I will send you this later today)
