FNU Family Violence Against Children a Challenge for Society Discussion.

Unfortunately, domestic violence or any kind of abuse uses a form of control over the behavior of another person with violence and or intimidation for personal gain. Some of the characteristics that would lead a provider to suspect violence are bruising, burns, cuts or scars, black eyes, missing teeth, etc. Patients usually don’t make eye contact, nervous to speak, very jumpy, abuser in the room and dominates the conversation, and does not allow the victim to be alone with the provider. Sadly, approximately 22.1 % of the surveyed women were physically assaulted by a current or former spouse, cohabitating partner, boyfriend or girlfriend, or date in their lifetime; 1.3 % of the surveyed women reported such violence during the previous year (Tjaden & Thoennes, 2000a).My hospitals’ protocol is to inform the Charge RN, Social Worker, Patient Safety, and proper authorities if necessary of your suspicion. The next step is to implement hospital policy & procedure. There is a form that must be put into action and steps that have to be followed using the PEARR Tool, which stands for Provide Privacy, Educate, Ask, Respect & Respond. If a sexual assault occurred, we must get a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) or SART (Sexual Assault Response Team) and reassure the pt she is in a safe place. Two weeks ago, I was completing a Non-Stress test (NST) on a patient. Because I have to place straps around her belly to get the baby on the monitor, I asked the patient to lift up her blouse and expose her belly. Immediately, I noticed bruising on her belly and on one arm. Horrified, I closed the curtain to give us privacy and started asking a ton of questions. I also completed a head-to-toe physical assessment which is not protocol for an NST but I just wanted to make sure there no other bruises, scars, or injuries on her body. After giving her the 3rd degree, thankfully, her bruising was caused by injecting the medication Lovenox. I also checked her medication list to verify that she was in-fact RX’d the medication. Unfortunately, for the patient, she contracted COVID-19 and developed blood clots in her lungs! In order to prevent complications during her pregnancy, she had to inject herself with a blood thinner. I was so relieved her bruising was from medication and Not anyone hurting her while she was pregnant.References:Tjaden, P. & Thoennes, N. (2000a). ENGL 102 UMGC Week 6 Relating Giovannis Room Toxic Masculinity Discussion

ENGL 102 UMGC Week 6 Relating Giovannis Room Toxic Masculinity Discussion.

In Week 5, you chose a story and identified a theme. Presumably, you noticed this theme because in some way you connected with it. Maybe you recognize elements of your own life, or those of people you know, or of public figures, in the story’s characters and events. Maybe the theme speaks to your own experience. Even if the story you chose is fictional and set in another time, place, or universe, a powerful literary work should have elements that we can identify as common to our own realities. For this question, reflect on the theme you chose last week and try to make these connections. Does the story remind you of events, people, emotions, or experiences you are familiar with? (You don’t need to write about your own experience if you’re not comfortable doing so; it’s fine to write about people you know, or public figures.) Did you learn anything from the story that could be applied to your own experience? Talk about the connections you feel to the story.

See attachment. Thank you. Criminal laws change to reflect the values of society and policymakers; therefore, public policy on crime is always changing. Acts that were once illegal are no longer prohibited by law, and misdemeanors are now felonies. For instance, from 1920–1933, it was largely illegal to sell alcohol in the United States. The recent legislative changes in some states regarding marijuana use provide another example of how the law can change to reflect societal values. Laws for prostitution and gambling have also varied significantly over time. Review the Learning Resources and consider how statutory classifications of crime vary across time and place. Discuss a contemporary example (U.S. or international) of an act that has been criminalized, legalized, or switched from being a misdemeanor to a felony in the last ten years in response to the influence of societal factors (e.g., cultural values, political pressures or public morality). Explain the development of this change (e.g., criminalization, legalization) and the societal influences that you believe provided the impetus for this change. Then, explain the challenges or benefits of the law changing as a result of these factors. Justify your response.
