Research Methods in human services Data-Driven Decision Making: Incorporating the Evidence Strategic decisions stem from a knowledge of the inputs, through-puts, and outputsof an operational system. Inputs are entered by users of a system, through-puts are data systematically stored and or.

These data sets come from many sources within a health care network and are generated when providers and insurers offer services to patients, families, and the community. While some information is specific to patients and provides the foundation for understanding patient needs, other information offers a snapshot of system performance and focuses on the utilization of staff, resources, and services. Day-to-day decisions imparted by leaders and those in supervisory roles require a clear picture of the operational performance of the organization as well as the teams' ability to manage patient-related information. This form of decision making is data-driven. In other words, the nature of the data will direct the appropriate course of action on the part of the person making decisions.

Reactive and Proactive Approaches to Decision Making

In order for providers to provide optimal care and leaders to provide visionary leadership both must employ a proactive, rather than reactive, approach to decision making. This begins with an identification of the sources of data that will help decision-makers anticipate needs and project outcomes. In many organizations, the data analytics or health information systems department provides leaders with daily reports that highlight areas of performance as well as opportunities for improvement. These same reports demonstrate the measure of productivity of a given department against areas of waste and potential risk. For health providers, patient information shared through portable devices offers real-time data on patients’ physical condition and alerts providers to potential harm.

Outcome-Focused Thinking: A New Model for Care

Technology has dramatically changed the approach to delivering and managing patient care. Not only has technology enhanced the ability to deliver state-of-the art treatments, technology has also enhanced the ability to avert risk and balance costs. In order to ensure prompt, safe and accurate health care, organizations and providers alike must learn to utilize health technology effectively. This requires leaders to consider the most appropriate use of technology and the implications of decision making to arrive and the best possible outcome.

Conclusion

Creating a personal leadership model requires a systematic and holistic approach. Incorporating evidence in decision making will provide leaders with the information needed to make informed decisions. Detailed reporting and real-time data will assist leaders in anticipating needs and proactively responding to trends, but only a leadership approach that employs outcome-focused decision making will result in strategic planning.

Writing Objective: Analyzing Causes or Effects Your objective for this unit is to write a paragraph or short paper that analyzes the causes of something or the effects of something. You may write about a personal topic, such as how being in the military.

Topic Sentence:
The impact of drug addiction is a serious problem that affects personal health, damages social relationship, and emotional well-being.

What Is Cause and Effect Analysis?

Writing that explains what happens as a result of certain events or why certain events occur is called cause and effect analysis. From the time we are children, all of us ask questions about why and how things happen: Why is the sky blue? What makes planes fly? Why are vegetables good for us? Why do the seasons change? What causes earthquakes? What makes the waves on the ocean? Even after we have grown up, we never completely lose our sense of curiosity about why and how things happen. We continue to wonder about what causes things to happen the way they do and how certain things affect our lives. Whenever we try to figure out and explain the causes of something or the effects of something, we are using cause and effect analysis.

Writing Objective: Analyzing Causes or Effects

Your objective for this unit is to write a paragraph or short paper that analyzes the causes of something or the effects of something. You may write about a personal topic, such as how being in the military service or winning an award affected you, or why you made a certain decision; or you may want to choose a more objective, informative topic, such as the effects of acid rain or the causes of the American Civil War. Informative topics may relate to history, economics, psychology, geology, nutrition, or any other area of knowledge that you are interested in. You may want to consider topics like the effects of a certain chemical or nutrient, the causes of a physical or mental disease, or the effects of an economic recession. With this kind of topic, it may be helpful to look up some information in a reference book or magazine article to be sure that your facts are accurate.

Ending Effectively

The conclusion for a short essay is just like the conclusion for a paragraph, except that the conclusion for an essay is generally a little longer and is written as a separate paragraph.

Like a conclusion for a paragraph-length paper, the purpose of a conclusion to an essay is to make the paper seem finished and complete. In addition, a good conclusion often leaves the reader with something to think about.

The suggestions for Ending Effectively at the end of previous weeks’ lectures can also apply to short essays, so you may want to review these suggestions. In general, most conclusions either review and reinforce the main points discussed in the essay or explain some insight or understanding to be gained from the essay.

technologies affect on human character

technologies affect on human character.

Basic Composition – Fall 2018
Assignment #2: Custom Made
Janet Ansine

Readings:
Adam Gopnik, “Bumping Into Mr. Ravioli”
Sherry Turkle “The Flight From Conservation”

Sherry Turkle makes the claim that “the little devices that most of us carry around are so powerful that they change not only what we do, but who we are” (1). We see the consequences of relying on technological advancement exemplified quite dramatically in Adam Gopnik’s essay. Let’s assume for this paper that Turkle’s statement is true. Your task is to first show how technology has the ability to “customize” our lives in these essays, and second, to make an argument about whether this is a good, inevitable, future for the human race in our relationships with one another, or whether we are heading down a dark path. Be sure to make clear what each author thinks about these difficult questions for the people they describe, and where you stand in relation to the authors’ positions.

Weigh and evaluate which points seem to be the most convincing to you, and explain in your paper. Use specific quotes, examples and details from the text in developing your response.
