Time Management Assignment
Using your original data from your time management assignment during Week 1, you will engage in the tasks
listed below. Use the keys provided for you to manage your data, complete the assignment and submit your
work to the instructor or via Canvas Assignment Manager. There are instructions for completing your graphs
below each table, in addition to the more complete, step-by-step instructions in the “creating a graph on line”
supportive document under this week’s Module. Also, use the “examples for creating tables” supportive
document to help guide you in creating your frequency distribution tables.

Task 1
You will complete a frequency distribution tables using your 5 tasks as the x-values.
1) x- values = the 5 tasks that you spend the most time doing
2) f = the frequency of engaging in each task
3) cf = the cumulative frequency of engaging in each task
4) % = percentages for each task (round to at least 2 spaces to the right if your calculations do not result in
whole numbers)
5) c% = the cumulative percentage (round to at least 2 spaces to the right if your calculations do not result
in whole numbers)

Frequency Distribution Table 1:
(NOTE: Your X values here are the 5 tasks)
X f cf % c%

∑f =
Task 1A
Using the data above, create a bar graph. Your 5 tasks should be placed on the x-axis with frequencies on the
y-axis.
(EXTRA: There are many different ways to create a bar graph on your computer. A bar graph can be
created by using graph applications on Word. However, I found a nice web site directed toward kids that
help you to create a bar graph quickly

What is the narrative style of the sociological method?

What is the narrative style of the sociological method?.

In short, modern utopianism is closely related to the kind of faith in science and rationality that Marx and Engels themselves show. Despite their critical stance toward the bourgeois ideology that is so closely involved with Enlightenment thought, Marx and Engels retain numerous echoes of the Enlightenment worldview in their philosophy, including a great deal of faith in scientific thinking. Thus, we see that science has played a major role in the history of utopian thinking and in the modern turn from “utopia” to “dystopia”. One exemplar of this turn is Freud, who seems to become more and more pessimistic about the ability of human society to move beyond the limitations of the past. In Civilization and Its Discontents, Freud argues that the reform of social institutions and conventions cannot, in fact, lead to human happiness, because civilization is by its very nature antagonistic to certain basic human impulses and therefore fundamentally a source not of happiness, but of unhappiness. Thus, unhappiness Freud explains is what we get in exchange for what civilization provides: security. This antagonistic alienation between the individual, the group, and the scale of modern society is often called the “crisis of modernity” that seems to be the core cause of many societal problems. This story arises because the narrative of scientific thinking tells us the life of dystopia we live merely contains problems that require utopian solutions: supposedly we all individually have a human right to “this” and “that”, while dismissing any reasonable limitations on such “freedoms”. How do we find a balance that is not reliant on utopian thinking nor on ideological thinking? What does the sociological method reveal? How does sociological analysis help us explore these possibilities? Research Question: What is the narrative style of the sociological method?

Using evidence (not opinion) from your own fieldwork observations, our classroom discussions of Goffman, and our other readings on sociology (listed on the syllabus), choose one position to defend: The narrative style of the sociological method is a form of utopian thinking that merely “cools the mark out”. This is the argument that sociology merely performs an institutional function of gathering data about different kinds of inequality that are continually “getting worse”, a scientific fact that keeps sociologists employed. The sociological method is thus a narrative form of an overly specialized kind of expertise. The narrative style of the sociological method is a form of ideological thinking that is no different from any other kind of belief. As such, sociology is a victim of its own false consciousness. The narrative style of the sociological method is a form of political revelation that enables social change through a demonstration of contradictions and contingencies that force us to seriously reconsider our explanations of human behavior and the politics of our own decision-making. The sociological method thus requires a narrative style that connects the study of cognition with the study of audiences and the study of group formation that is sensitive to attention in the balance of nature and nurture. This permits sociologists to address social and societal problems by exposing their underlying correlations and causes; factors that are typically hidden by simple and complex explanations. This narrative style permits sociology to take account of its own possibility.

Page 1 of 3 Probability / Frequency Distribution Tables / Graphs Time Management Assignment Using your original data from A theater critical review on “King Lear”.

THA200 Performance Critique Two (PLAY ABOUT “KING LEAR” INTRODUCTION (and clues for getting a good grade) We want you to know how to apply theater terms to actual plays, so we are asking you to analyze the production you saw in terms of the theatrical vocabulary we have been studying. Besides your use of the vocabulary, we are also looking for certain conventions of formal writing, like in-text citations and MLA-formatted Works Cited page. Lastly, we want to grade you all fairly, so we are asking you to very precisely follow the instructions. In fact, that part is so important, that you will get points just for following the instructions (and get points subtracted for not doing what the instructions require.) If you want to know exactly how we are grading, and how many points for each section, check out the rubric on Turnitin before you submit. Again, everything you need to know is in the guidelines below. Read them carefully. If you have questions, let us know on the Forum site, email us and/or come to office hours. And, don’t forget to proof-read. Good luck! Guidelines: Use the following required format for your critique. Please divide your paper into sections and use the Roman numerals and titles exactly as they appear below. You should use the theatrical vocabulary and concepts we are learning from our text in your answers. Once you have finished with a paragraph, go back and place in boldface all vocabulary words or concepts from the chapter that you are featuring. This might be several words per paragraph, but by all means should include at least one term per answer. Points will be deducted for reports that use laymen’s terms or excessive verbiage to express ideas for which we have learned vocabulary, for failing to place vocabulary in boldface, or for reports that boldface common words instead of theatrical vocabulary. The major objective of this report is to demonstrate your familiarity and facility with theatrical perspectives and “lingo.” Make sure you use our terms and definitions, and make them easy to find in your report!
