Are stay at home mom de-valued in American society? Should stay at home moms be monetarily compensated? Should they be eligible to earn social security benefits? What do feminists say about the stay at home mom? Do they support women who choose to stay at home? Can a stay at home mom be a feminist as the last article inquires? What do you think are the positive and negative effects of a dual-earner lifestyle on children? If daycare is necessary, what are the effects both positive and negative on children?

Discussion Forum 6: Families on the Fault Line – chapters 3-4 – 20 points

Please answer some or all of the following questions: Do you think most people idolize the past? That is that they think the past was more innocent and the present is more dangerous and less moral? Does the research back this up? Are things getting worse? Why do you think marriage stats are changing? Why are women getting married later and having babies later than before? This book is almost 20 years old. How different do you think these two chapters would be if families were interviewed today? What do you think about African-American women saying they feel left out of feminist discourse? Do you think that is still true for them today? What do you think about men’s reaction to feminism in chapter 4? Do you think these attitudes change by socio-economic status? That is do more educated, higher SES men also feel this way about women working?
