MODULE SS7168: RESEARCHING VIOLENCE AND EVALUATING INTERVENTIONS
ASSESSMENT 2: RESEARCH PLAN
This assessment involves thinking about a research question and developing a methodological approach which will enable you to answer it.
We encourage you to use this assessment to think about the question and methodological approach for your MA dissertation.
(the dissertation topic is “Impact of Immigration Law on Women and Children fleeing Violence”
The plan should include:
– A 2000-word review of the existing literature on your topic, with an emphasis on research methods and any gaps in the knowledge base
– Use this to lead into your research question and why it needs answering
– How you are going to answer it – your methodological approach and why it is appropriate.
There are three possible approaches
1. A detailed critical engagement with existing material – this is called secondary analysis. This may be existing research, policy documents or other materials. Here you need to discuss your search terms/approach, how you are going to find and select your material and the question/s you are going to explore through it.
2. Doing secondary analysis of an existing dataset – asking a new or different question that was not explored in the original study. You need to establish access to a dataset (there are a number of public ones and the ESRC holds an archive of quantitative and qualitative datasets).
3. Collecting original data to explore an topic about which there is limited existing research. If you choose this option you need to have a section on how you would have done this before social distancing and how you will adapt to take account of this, including some reflections on ethics. In this case your literature review will be much shorter.
TIPS
• Try to develop an actual question, rather than just an area of study. So rather than ‘Action Plans on VAW and Human Rights’, an actual question would be ‘How far does the Greater London Authority (or a specific country) action plan on VAW meet human rights standards?’
• Show how your methodological approach will enable you to answer your question, and think about whether it is doable in terms of your skills, resources and time.
NOTE: Remember what we say about interviewing survivors – that this is only ethical if you need their voices to answer your question. If you have no experience in offering support, we will not accept this for your dissertation. There are plenty of other people you can interview.
The text should be around 4000 words.

Four models for proposal development.

Four models for proposal development..

When developing and implementing a grant proposal, the grantee must consider the project structure and four models for proposal development. Understanding this framework helps to fine tune the proposal and ensure that consideration has been given to selecting the appropriate resources required to carry out the project. There are four models that can be used for proposal development and implementation: individual, consultative, cooperative, and collaborative. Working as an individual may be sufficient for smaller projects or a pilot. However, the consultative, cooperative, and collaborative models may be required to carry out more complex work. Each of these models involve careful consideration of the required level of resources, collaboration, and partnerships. In preparation for this assignment, consider the four models of proposal development as well as when each type of design is appropriate. Reflect upon the characteristics of persuasive writing. Assignment: In a 2- to 3-slide PowerPoint presentation with recorded voiceover, compare and contrast the four models of proposal development (individual, consultative, cooperative, and collaborative) and how each model would work in your grant-funded project. Persuade your classmates why your choice of one of these four models is most appropriately aligned with your proposed project. Be sure to support your analysis and conclusions with citations and references in APA format.

insurance analysis

MODULE SS7168: RESEARCHING VIOLENCE AND EVALUATING INTERVENTIONS ASSESSMENT 2: RESEARCH PLAN This assessment involves thinking about a research question insurance analysis.

Introduction

To quote from The Matrix, “Welcome to the real world.”

You are about to undertake your individual capstone research project. This exciting project requires you to select the following:

· A particular modeling technique/approach

· An industry that competes using analytics

· Another analytics topic for in-depth research.

Considerations

“If I had only one hour to save the world, I would spend fifty-five minutes defining the problem, and only five minutes finding the solution.”

—Albert Einstein

The paper includes four parts: research paper proposal, literature review and domain analysis, mid-term paper, and final term paper. They break down as follows:

1. Research Paper Proposal (about 8% of total words/papers)

Identify the topic on which you would like to work. You must convince me that the topic is meaningful and significant enough to merit your attention for the entire semester. You must also show that it is challenging and non-trivial. Put differently, there’s no easy description and/or application). Give a preview of how you will investigate the problem:

· Whom you will ideally interview

· Which sources you will read

· How you will go about building something real

· How you will demonstrate solutions relevant to the topic

Submit your proposal via Blackboard. Please talk to me before the due date if you’d like assistance in selecting a good research topic.

2. Literature Review and Domain Analysis (about 17% of total words/papers)

Discuss the different types of data sources and tools that you can use for your mid-term paper. References will include the following types of work: books, articles, TED talks, and the like. Data sources can run the gamut: Open and public datasets, data from competition sites such as Kaggle.com, data accessible via APIs, website such as data.gov, etc.

3. Mid-Term Paper (about 40% of total words/papers)

At this point, you have vetted the technologies, tools, and data sources from the literature review.

Here you will provide a thorough analysis of your topic based on your research. By this point, you should have reviewed a broad range of literature—e.g., books, articles, lectures, blog posts, and other media. There may be instances in which you need to understand multiple points of view on the topic. For full credit, you must also have interviewed at least two experts or practitioners with knowledge about the topic. Those interviews should be incorporated into your literature review. Based on the understanding that you have acquired from this research, you must outline your plan for constructing a hands-on, practical solution over the remaining half-semester. This plan should focus on one or more potential solutions to the topic you have studied.

You need to use data and tools to demonstrate your knowledge and skills. Alternately, you may conduct a case study research with a real organization that is directly involved in aspects of your topic.

The final product should be professionally written. It may include part or the entire proposal that you submitted earlier. Please submit the paper via Blackboard.

4. Final Term Paper (about 35% of total words/papers)

The final term paper will build upon the material that you submitted in the mid-term paper. It will also represent thorough report on the hands-on solutions you that prepared. The exact form of this write-up will vary according to your chosen research topic and your research. However, it is essential that you go beyond merely reporting your activities. The best papers will show that you have thought critically about what you have learned and experienced.

Note that the final paper may contain part or all of the initial proposal and mid-term paper. Deliver a hard copy to my office or the Dean’s Office if I am out. Then submit the electronic version via Blackboard. I expect that your final report will be professionally written and edited.

Finally, don’t just add words for the sake of doing so. You’ll be better served by submitting a shorter, well-written paper than a longer one with a bunch of superfluous content/fluff.

A Note on Language and Jargon

Albert Einstein famously said, “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.”

Truer words have never been spoken. This course places great importance on clarity and simplicity. You won’t get more points for unnecessarily dropping buzzwords and using jargon. Being able to article your thoughts—both verbally and in writing—clearly and succinctly will serve you well after graduation.

Software Define Networking

Software Define Networking.

Imagine you are a junior researcher at a world-renowned, high-tech laboratory. The senior scientist asks that you critique and replicate an experiment within the software defined networking, mobile computing, or Internet of Things domain to demonstrate your research and technical prowess to the group. They have not specified which experiment to analyze; however, they stipulate that it must be found within a peer-reviewed publication within the last ten years and ask that you produce a short report presenting your critique and experience replicating the experiment. First, locate a research study that contains a reproducible experiment taking the time and resource constraints of the course into consideration. Second, analyze the original study and address the items described below: • Describe the problem addressed. Why is it important? Is this an agreed-upon problem? • Describe what was accomplished by the study. What was not achieved? • Describe the methodology the study utilized. Was it appropriate? Justify. • Describe the study results and the contribution it made to the body of knowledge, if any. • Describe possible extensions to the research, if any. In what ways can the study be enhanced or modified to provide additional value? Discuss any limitations or assumptions held within the study and how they can be addressed. • Present the study’s experiment that will be reproduced. Be sure to outline the setup and resources utilized. • Describe how you will reproduce the experiment. How does your experiment differ from the original? In what ways were they the same? How do your results compare with the original results, and what conclusions can be drawn with the additional data provided by your experiment? • Finally, reproduce the experiment and document the setup, procedure, and results. Create any tables, graphs, raw results, or aggregate reports that would allow for direct comparison with the original study. References: Included a minimum of five scholarly resources Length: 5-7 pages, not include title and reference pages

To expand understanding of universal human experience of living with loss

To expand understanding of universal human experience of living with loss.

The final scholarly paper focuses on how knowledge is created within different theoretical lens and ontological traditions in nursing. The hermeneutics of interpretation shows how research data are interpreted within a horizon of understanding (Gadamer, 1989) that researchers are required to make explicit in their introduction and theoretical framework. The horizon of understanding will be connected with the basic values, attitudes and beliefs affiliated with different ontologies/paradigms. For instance, a researcher within a post-positivist paradigm will value measurement, causality, control and the researcher’s review of literature and their conceptual framework should reflect these values. Data analysis and interpretation of data should reflect these same values— completing the hermeneutic circle of interpretation and the fusion of horizons (Gadamer, 1989). Note. Gadamer, H. G. (1989). Truth and method (trans: J. Weinsheimer and DG Marshall). London: Sheed and Ward.

Paper Requirements: For this scholarly paper, you will be writing up a short research study. Ensure there is congruence with your theoretical framework and philosophical tradition or paradigm in all sections of the paper. The focus of this course is on analysis so the first few sections of this paper are to show how your chosen lens leads you to create knowledge in a unique way. Use the categories and themes from the stories of living with loss that you identified during the data analysis exercise earlier in the term ( I have attached the stories of loss and the data analysis paper where I identified the categories and themes in the stories with the order). You may have synthesized your themes even further and this often happens as researchers come to write up the findings.

(see Chapters 6 and 9 in “qualitative research analyzing life” by Saldana and Omasta text book. to help guide you with these sections of your paper):

1. Introduction: Provide a brief introduction to your research about the phenomenon/experience of loss for daughters whose mothers are diagnosed with Alzheimer Disease. Include a purpose for your research study. (1 – 2 para)

2. Theoretical Framework – describe your theoretical framework and situate it within a larger ontological tradition/worldview/paradigm (1 to 2 para)

3. Research question (s) – What is/are your research questions? These questions will reflect your theoretical lens and worldview and how you view the phenomenon of loss.

4. Data collection methods and Participants (1 to 2 para)

5. Data Analysis and methods (1 para)

6. Findings – this is the focus of the paper where you are fleshing out your findings – what are the themes that you identified emerging in the stories of loss – provide examples of excerpts from the stories to give support to your themes (4 to 5 pages). Show how the themes link with and expand your chosen theoretical framework.

7. Conclusions (1 to 2 paras)

Below is a draft that might help with the research study

Research Question: What is it like to see someone you know change/changing in frightening ways?

Participants: Daughters whose mothers were diagnose with Alzheimer disease, and actively caring or involve in the care of their mother. age rage from 30 to 50

Theoretical framework/ontological tradition: I am going with Human science theory as my ontological worldview that will be guiding the research

Research purpose: To expand understanding of universal human experience of living with loss
