While liberal studies is often used interchangeably with the liberal arts, they’re not really the same thing.

Liberal Arts is an umbrella term, that includes the area of social sciences, humanities, the arts, and natural sciences. Liberal studies, however, takes an integrated view of those areas and blends them into one curriculum.

Whereas a liberal arts student might concentrate on a single subject, a liberal studies student will typically explore connections between several broad disciplines. this is sometimes referred to as interdisciplinary studies. For example, students might analyze not only how history has contributed to modern-day societies, but also how science and technology have had lasting impacts over time. This would most likely be facilitated in an interdisciplinary program of study such as CWU’s Liberal Studies program.

Liberal Studies graduates are trained to think with a broad, global perspective that can be applied to a variety of fields. In addition to a deeper understanding of the world around them, they have the communication and leadership skills that will set them up for long-term success. Especially in today’s evolving job market.

Write a Research Paper (4-5 pages, double-spaced) on “The Value of a Liberal Studies Education.”
Cite at least four references, at least one must be from a published scholarly journal. Consider articles that can be found through the CWU Libraries Journal collection, such as JSTOR — contact the Library for help. Links to an external site.

Include a discussion of your personal and professional goals as they fit into how you now envision a liberal studies education. (I will do this part and add it onto the essay)
