Emma Collin Schools as organisations Unit TDA 2. 5 Unit level 2 2. 1 Roles and responsibilities * School governors School governors are a team of people who work closely with the head teacher to make key decisions vital to the successful running of the school. The governors appoint the head teacher and make decisions that directly affect the education and well-being of the children. They play an important role in improving standards throughout the school and agree the school’s budget. Within the governing body there will be at least one staff governor, there may also be a support governor and a (LA) governor appointed by the LA.
Senior management The SMT is usually made up of the head teacher and deputy head , but then depending on the school, the team can be bigger and more varied , often you’ll find assistant head teachers or senior teachers with particular responsibilities , like leading one of the key stages within the school . there may also be a member of (SENCO) special education needs coordinator , and the (SBM) school business manager is also a member, their role is to set the direction of the school and manage this to the best of their ability, they will also lead any changes and generally make sure the school is doing the best. Other statutory roles There are staff roles within a school which are legally required , a head teacher and deputy head are the main source of management to a school, the two main others are SENCOs and ,in primary school the foundation stage manager(FSM). The SENCO is responsible for managing those with special needs within the school. The SENCO will also need to monitor the provisions for those with special educational needs, and make sure there is paperwork in place for those in early years or school action or action plus .
The FSM must ensure that the early year’s key stage is being run according to the statutory requirements of the early years foundation stage document. * Teachers Teachers are responsible for ensuring that they are following the curriculum and teaching this correctly to their class ,in a primary school this will be for all subjects under the national curriculum ,teachers generally have a another area of responsibility in the school. This may be as a member of the Senior Management Team . teachers is expected to know the curriculum and attend forums set up by the LA so they can be monitored. Support staff
