A study of the concept of “kerygma,” in relation to Catholic theology.

The paper explores this technical term in Biblical scholarship, comparing it to other terms such as “didache.” The meaning of “kerygma” is laid out, and its connection with Catholic theology is explained. The relationship between Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture is investigated. The paper concludes with evaluations and explanations concerning Catholic theology.
“The word “Kerygma” originates from the Greek language that denotes an announcement, preaching or a proclamation (BAGD, 430-31). In the Erasmian pronunciation of Greek “which is commonly used at most university levels for ancient Greek, both biblical and classical” kerygma is pronounced as “kay-roog-ma.” In this, the first “a” is long, while the last “a” is short. Related words include “kerux,” meaning “herald, preacher,” and “kerusso” which means, “to proclaim aloud, to announce, preach, make known” (BAGD, 431).”
