Instructions Select one song from titles provided in this week’s Lesson 4, 5 and 6 materials, mixtape, or in the lectures OR anything mentioned in the course to create a total of 3 songs to submit to the Listening Journal #2). Try to use some of the techniques you learned about in the music analysis tool box (previous slide)! At the end of Week 2 you should have selected 3 songs total for your listening journal. Read “Active Listening or ‘How To Listen To Hip-Hop’” for guidance and ideas. You may find it helpful to follow one of the sample templates, which are intended to guide you in writing your journal, but you do not have to follow them. However, if you do follow one of the templates, you will ensure that you are including all the required elements to complete the journals correctly. There are two different templates, which are linked below. You do not have to strictly use one format or the other, however, as long as you include the information listed in the templates in your journal submissions, you will be sure to get full credit. The first template is designed for those who want to write or discuss the music in a standard music-journal format. The second template is in a table/chart columnar form that provides clear structure in organizing the information. Don’t get overwhelmed with this. If you don’t understand some of the musical lingo it is completely fine. Talk about what you know and how the music connected to you. Music is a social activity and we like to talk about it with each other. This is your opportunity to reflect on how you understand the music itself. You have a choice in the format for the Listening Journal but you must remain consistent for each one. For your submissions you may: Type in a Word doc; submit as a .doc or .docx or convert to PDF Record a podcast-style audio file (this gives you the chance to include pieces of the recording) Record a video of you reviewing (you should use some visuals if you take this option; otherwise, just record in audio) If you have another format you would like to use, please contact the instructor for approval. Suggested Template Formats Template #1 download- standard music-journal format Template #2 download- columnar table-style format Submission Details For each song selected for this listening journal, discuss the musical elements of each in either written commentary (minimum of 50-100 words) or an audio or video recording (minimum 2 minutes total). Please read the comparison and answer the 3 questions below completely and thoroughly. Each question is worth 25 points possible. You must upload your answers in a Word document that will be run through Turnitin (answers copied from another source will result in a zero). “Less than a decade ago, no one considered that Amazon might someday give Walmart something to worry about. But today, Amazon is a $107 billion a year company. Walmart, though, brings in about 4.5 times more sales, at $482 billion. However, Amazon has grown 20 percent annually over the past four years, while Walmart’s growth over the same time period has been essentially flat. Already, Amazon is cutting in to Walmart’s sales. And, if this pace keeps up, Amazon could be the one to ultimately dethrone the king of retail. At the center of the battle is price. While low price may ultimately declare a winner in this game of cat and mouse, both parties also need to take extreme caution when it comes to overdoing it. Reckless price-cutting will likely do more damage than good to both companies. In the process, both companies are trying to find other ways of outdoing each other, like personalized service and delivery options. Amazon seems to have the upper hand in this area, but Walmart is making strides by investing heavily in its fulfillment network and combining the best of its online and off-line operations. The winner will have to do more than offer the lowest price. Selection, convenience, and buying experience will be vital to winning online.” Please answer the following questions: For Amazon and Walmart, is it more important to have lower prices or to have the perception of lower prices? What pricing strategies do the two companies use? Do they use the same ones? Why or why not?In the battle for online dominance, just how important is low price? How important are other benefits that Amazon and Walmart each deliver?
