Impacts of Alzheimer’s Disease

Share this: Facebook Twitter Reddit LinkedIn WhatsApp It is quite easy to confound someone’s propensity when they have Alzheimer’s and it can be done easily because the person with Alzheimer’s unconsciously has no way of articulating that need. Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disease in which abnormal protein deposits build up in the brain, causing brain cells to succumb. In Alzheimer’s disease, however, tarnishing is wide spread as many of the neurons stop functioning, loose connection with other neurons and the brain shrinks and deteriorates. At first, Alzheimer’s disease typically destroys neurons and its connections in parts of the brain involved in memory, including the entorhinal cortex and the hippocampus. The brain tissue shrinks as the disease progresses causing magnificent memory calamity and loss of cognition functioning. There are seven stages to Alzheimer’s but five are important to know about. To understand the results of Alzheimer’s, you must identify with the divination and commiserate with the person at hand who is suffering from the disease because every person with it suffers differently. Typical progression of Alzheimer’s disease may be broken down into three, five or seven stages. Meanwhile, this includes five stages that are important in understanding the progression of Alzheimer’s and effects it has for all individuals involved. Stage one which is the first signs of impairment. Stage two is very mild cognitive decline. Stage three includes mild cognitive decline. And stage four is moderate cognitive decline. The last stage is the hardest to watch it is fifth stage dementia and the individual loses all cognitive functioning. In stage one memory loss that disrupts daily life is happening, the person forgets recent learned information. Common material the patient forgets includes important dates or events, they tend to ask for important information again and again. Patient relies on family and reminders to keep them on top the information. An example of this would be forgetting a doctor’s appointment or a name but remembering them later (Alzheimer’s association). A patient in the second stages tends to have difficulty completing familiar tasks on their own time at home or at work. The patient tends to forget how to use the setting on the microwave or to turn off the tv or a lamp in the home. The third stage tends to happen in moderate stages of Alzheimer’s and the patient has confusion with time or places. The patient can lose track of dates, seasons and the passage of time. Also changes in vision happens unfortunately for some patients, having vision problems is a sign of the disease. They may have difficult reading, judging distance, and determining color, which tends to result in problems with stability and driving. Decreased and poor judgement also occurs in the moderate stages of Alzheimer’s. For example, having worked with many Alzheimer’s patients this one is common among patients, they tend to have changes in decision making and judgment such as when dealing with money, paying less attention to grooming or keeping themselves clean. The patient withdrawals from social life in this stage as well, they feel weary of things, like social obligations and family. The patient may avoid being social because of changes they have experienced (Alzheimer’s association). Changes in mood and personality is a huge step in moderate dementia, they become confused suspicious depressed, fearful and anxious. Patients can easily get upset and discouraged, if its uncomfortable when the situation is outside of their comfort zone. So, exactly how the patients feel, having asked a patient with Alzheimer’s questions; the response was imagine being put in front of classroom full of other students and the teacher calls upon you and no recollection of the answer happens, that is exactly how they feel. A tendency of embarrassment happens, voice faltering, palms sweat, face blushes, anger happens, and they feel like they have a loss of control. The patient was asked a question and had no idea what to say because they had no answer. Basically, in mild Alzheimer’s seems like being a functional alcoholics day as far as cognition goes. Some small things like putting a shirt on backwards but not noticing or not being able to find the sugar bowl which is in the same place as it usually is, so you start to take apart the kitchen and cupboards, finally you decide to go with out the sugar and coffee, before they are aware, the kitchen is a complete mess. Later the patient comes back and has no recollection he/she indeed made the mess and has no memory of even looking for the sugar for their coffee. The memory of that moment is gone and the more the caregiver argues that they did it, the angrier the person with Alzheimer’s gets. The entire day can go like this. Routines are easy but anything new or added is more difficult. Then as the brain deuterates more the Alzheimer’s becomes moderate and days become more moment to moment and routine is your friend. Basically, the entire day is like breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Activities like taking bathes/showers becomes difficult. The bathroom is very separate from a normal living space, seems scary or dangerous. Stimulation becomes a burden for the patient, the patient sees him/herself doing it, taking the shower should be easy right, soap, shampoo, their wash cloth is right there, On the other hand it is terrifying for them. The water running in their eyes and ears, then someone helping them which just seems extremely weird no matter how much they understand and accept they need the help. The patient refuses showers because its over stimulation, exhausting, and to them it feels unnecessary. Moderate Alzheimer’s patients dislike showers. Severe dementia patients tend to sleep more and more often even during formally pleasurable activities. Such as familiar music they enjoy. The damage to their brain is so profound that the stimulation is not enough to keep them awake. The difference between awake and dreaming is invisible. Speech becomes very limited. Stimulation does not get acknowledged at all by this time, for example it’s like putting the patients’ hand on a puppy an she/he acknowledges her hand and not the puppy. No response to the stimulation. It is like watching someone that is brain dead wide awake. The patient no longer hears music, they have a loss of engagement. In severe dementia everything becomes moment to moment and routine means nothing anymore because there is no past or future. Most patients with severe dementia live in the right now. Patients will sleep 23 hours out of the 24 that occur in the day at end stage. When they are awake they may as well be asleep and dreaming. The person at hand will not meet your eye nor respond to any stimulation except the painful kind. Eating is no longer understood or that they are supposed to put in their mouth. Basically, your almost gone. The output of urine drops, body temperature rises, peristalsis decreases, organs begin to shut down, the patient sleeps, sleeps, and sleeps. Eventually they slip away very peacefully. Coping with this situation and diagnoses can be difficult. When someone you care for is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, the effects on the family can be overwhelming (Mayo Clinic). The reality of someone you care for getting this disease can trigger many emotions -including anger, fear, frustration, and sadness. Conflicts will arise and are common with family members who struggle to deal with the changes. Be prepared that will have an impact on the family, remember to share responsibility, meet regularly to discuss the patients care with a support group, be honest with yourself and everyone. If you find yourself as a caregiver of your family member arguing with him or her consider asking a counselor, social worker, a mediator or another professional to moderate. Plan activities with loved ones that you all enjoy and can be adapted to the persons current level of functioning. Adaptable activities include card games and walking. Simple tasks with chores like folding clothing. Remember that judging how that the person is doing it is unacceptable, give sanction that they are taking part in an activity. If the patient can no longer partake in an activity he or she liked to do, remember to relax the rules and definitions of what is “appropriate.” For instance, if the patient likes playing cards but cannot follow the rules of the game anymore, try sorting the deck into colors and suits instead. The object is to get the mind to respond to stimulation and will help slow down the progression of the disease. Whenever it’s a possibility offer choices. Most important detail is to set a routine for daily living. Set realistic goals and attainable goals, if it’s too complicated let it go and go on. Caregivers so often try so hard to make everything all right. Often finding themselves exhausted and frustrated. Perhaps your goal is to make sure your patient is clean, comfortable, and well fed but accepting the patient’s success and your own success at 80% is going to make the day run so much smoother. If you as a caregiver make the patient comfortable and you get them fed that day, accept and move on this will allow you as a caregiver to enjoy time you might have otherwise; fighting about not getting your goals reached. With Alzheimer’s disease remember all behavior has a purpose. When a person with AD exhibits shouting and lashing out its due to them trying to tell the need that isn’t being met. Its not intentional or on purpose they just aren’t aware of how to put the right words on the table to communicate. On the contrary, having have worked with Alzheimer’s patients and as a caregiver understanding the patient is most important. These few things can help caregivers and family in all stages of the disease and family will have a better understanding of how it is for the person suffering with AD. Having patients with the family member ,showing compassion and keeping things simple will make this process go so much smoother for the person at hand. Human Trafficking: Definition, Reasons and Ways to Solve the Problem Analytical Essay. Introduction Modern world can be characterized by the blistering development of the issue known as globalization. People are able to communicate, share the latest news and even make bargains with the help of the Internet, which obviously makes the life of society easier. However, globalization also has a great number of negative effects and the world nowadays faces the aftermath of this very process. The first and most dangerous thing is obviously terrorism as this phenomenon also becomes global and all countries of the world can suffer from it. Governments have to respond to this hew challenge as it can threat security not only of a certain country however, they can destroy the whole modern society. The issue of human trafficking is of this sort. Definition of Human Trafficking To understand the problem better, a clear definition of the issue should be given. Nowadays, under the term human trafficking people understand the trade of human beings with different purposes1. In other words, it is a sort of modern slavery which coherent humanity is supposed to be got rid of. Traders use the similar schemes which slave merchants of the past used. People, who are being sold, become a good as they are deprived of any rights and privileges. Very often, they do not have documents and depend on their master totally. Under these conditions, they have no choice but to obey because there is no other chance for them to survive. Moreover, very often force is used to control these people. That is why, it becomes obvious that slavery, which is taken as the remnant of the past, prosper in the modern world and a great number of people suffer from it. According to statistics, about 800000 people are sold every year2. Moreover, the following diagram shows that women comprise the greater part of this trade, while the demand for men is lower3. The threatening fact is that children are also sold. The main reasons However, the given statistics becomes more understandable if to take into account the main purposes of human trafficking. There is a great number of different reasons, however, it is possible to state the most important ones. Sexual slavery is one of the main cause of human trafficking. There is a huge market of sex slaves in the world and, that is why, a great demand exists. Horrifying fact is that the average age of children who are sold is 13 years4. That is why, women comprise the majority of people who are sold because they can be forced to work as prostitutes and this commercial sexual exploration can give great benefits to their owners. Thus, men and children can also be involved in sex industry, however, their number is lower. The next important reason is forced labour. In this segment men slaves are more demanded and appreciated as they are more enduring and can bring bigger profit. Finally, there are also such reasons as forced marriage and even extraction of organs and tissues5. Unfortunately, very often children suffer from the last reason and this cruelty cannot but horrify. Moreover, the next table shows the main causes which make people sell themselves or become sold. The main causes of human trafficking Unemployment Poverty Chaos in a state Absence of real power Discriminated layers of society other Table 1. The main ways It should be said that there are many ways in which slaves can be transported and delivered to their owners. Globalisation and development of different means of transport make this process easier. Nevertheless, it is obvious that usually slaves are not taken from the regions where their owners live. It is much easier to obtain people from poor countries where conditions of living are catastrophic and very often people have no other choice but to become slaves6. They can make this step in their own volition because they do not know how to survive. Additionally, very often slave traders choose countries with weak governments and judicial power as they could not guarantee security for their citizens. That is why, the necessity to deliver these people appears. Very often ships or cars are used for this purpose as they are more commodious and it is easier to hide people there. People are transferred under horrible conditions, though it is the cheapest way. Additionally, it should be said that there are special places where such cars or ships can cross a border without any complications. Besides, it should be said that the are some countries which are taken as traditional suppliers of people for some European countries. The next table shows the number of representatives of different states which came to the UK. Table 2.7 Incomes Nevertheless, it is still a risky business as according to the law there is a severe punishment for people who trade slaves. Thus, the possibility of punishment does not scare them. The thing is that it is a good source of income and giant sums of money can be obtained with its help. Moreover, according to the latest investigations, it is possible to say that there are certain organisations which deal with this issue and which have aligned mechanism of human trafficking8. Terrorist organisations belong to the main actors and nowadays they are also great suppliers of slaves. Human trafficking is another way for them to earn money which will be spent on weapon and recruiting9. Moreover, activity of these organisations very often leads to the appearance of chaos on certain territories. The government of a state, to which these territories belong, is not able to resist terrorist organisations and they can take people with impunity. Due to this fact, the issue of human trafficking becomes one of the main sources of incomes for different terrorist organisations. Interested actors Besides, it is silly to deny the nude fact that even these organisations need patrons from developed countries which will be able to protect them and control the whole market of slaves. Very often these patrons are representatives of governments of different developed countries or some global international organisations which main task is to fight with this very issue. Cynicism of these people impresses, though it is easier to control human trafficking if a person has real power. Moreover, the amount of money obtained due to this trade should not be forgotten. “The United Nations estimates the total market value of illicit human trafficking at 32 billion US dollars”10. That is why, there are many people who want to get part of this money and guarantee their prosperity. Additionally, the sum is not final as a great number of bargains connected with human trade remain unnoticed and incomes from them can be used for different purposes. Threat to security Besides, distribution of these very incomes can be taken as a threat to security of the whole world. It has already been stated that this money are used by terrorist organizations to buy weapon and equipment. Having obtained new remedies, they will be able to continue their activity and bring chaos to other territories, enlarging the areas where slaves can be obtained, which, in its turn can lead to the further development of slave market. Moreover, the growth of terrorist organizations is also a great threat to the whole world. Thus, there is one more danger connected with the development of human trafficking. Humanity devoted a great number of efforts trying to get rid of slavery and guarantee equal conditions to different people. However, nowadays, it returns. People are deprived of their rights and many of them are taken as a good. It is a very threatening tendency which leads to corruption of the main principles according to which our society functions. That is why this process holds a great threat to the modern world. Ways to solve the problem Under these conditions, it becomes obvious that some steps should be made in order to stop further development of this issue and guarantee security and rights for abused people. However, it is a rather complicated task nowadays. The thing is, that modern world suffers from crisis, both political and economical. Additionally, terrorist organization known as ISIL adds tension to situation and makes it more complicated. That is why there should be the complex of measures which main aim will be to stop development of terrorism and human trafficking. Almost all countries in the world try to solve this very problem as terrorism has already led to thousands of victims and continues its development11. Global organisations However, it is useless to struggle with it alone. It is the obvious fact that only the combination of efforts of a great number of countries can solve this problem. The work of different international organizations like United Nations should be aimed at looking for a good solution for this problem. Additionally, it is possible to suggest that some new organization, which activity will be the struggle with human trafficking only, should be created. This organization should be comprised of the most powerful states like Russia, China, India, the USA and countries of the European Union. Moreover, the Vienna forum, which was organized with the aim to discuss this issue, could also help to solve the problem as it addresses three main issues of human trafficking. Participants of the forum try to understand why human trafficking occur, what the consequences are and what measures can be taken.12 Conclusion With this in mind, having analyzed the issue of human trafficking, it is possible to make a certain conclusion. First of all, it should be said that it is a very threatening problem which can destroy modern society. It humiliates dignity of a person and deprives him/her of his/her human rights. Additionally, another threatening fact is that the bigger part of incomes obtained with the help of human trafficking is spent to finance terrorism and promote its development. That is why, this very problem can be taken as one of the most important nowadays and the most efficient solutions should be found. Being a global problem, the issue of human trafficking can be solved only be the combined efforts of a great number of different countries which should control this issue and punish people and organizations which deal with it. Only under these conditions the possibility to get rid of this problem will appear. Bibliography “Eleven Facts About Human Trafficking“. Do Something. Web. Eurostat. “Trafficking in human beings“. QUESTION TO ANSWER (W4 DQ2 PUB 650)In October 2014, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated that travelers arriving in the United States from the Ebola affected countries of Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia who do not have a fever or symptoms of the disease (including health care workers who have cared for patients with Ebola virus disease) should be actively monitored but do not need to be quarantined. However, after a New York physician, Craig Spencer, was diagnosed with the infection shortly after returning from Guinea, where he had cared for patients with Ebola, the states of New York, New Jersey, Florida, and Illinois announced that they would implement mandatory quarantine policies. News Article on the topic Heavy Rain Causing Flash Flooding in North Texas following this format of purpose, audience, rhetorical appeals, modes & media, elements of genre, style, and designWhat are the requirements of a News Article? Note: A news article is NOT like an essay. Do not write this as an essay; if you do, I will have to return it to you for a revision that you will have to submit as late. I repeat: A news article is not an essay, so don’t compose it or structure it as an essay. You need to study the news article genre in Chapter 9 and news articles in any newspaper. Also, note that news articles are not op-eds or editorials, which are arguments. News articles are objective reports written in the third-person. If you choose to compose a news article, you must do all of the following, in addition to meeting the rhetorical situation and genre expectations and conventions explained in Chapter 9. Compose a third-person objective news article on a topic that is relevant to your local community and that is no less than 800 words long. Your news article…Must be a news report on a topic of local interest, not an argument.News articles report the news. They say something like this: “Richardson ISD reported its highest number of active COVID-19 cases among students and staff this week. Parents and guardians expressed mixed feelings during a virtual townhall on Friday.” The rest of the story will give all the details about this story with information gathered from the following sources: the RISD COVID website, official emails and videos from the RISD superintendent, interviews with parents, and quotes from the administrators, teachers, students, and parents and guardians from the virtual townhall meeting. The news article might even include some Dallas County C-19 stats from Dallas County’s official COVID-19 website. In this sample story, you would simply report the facts and order them from most important to least important.Must write for your community, neighborhood, campus, or city, so you must choose a local story or a broader story with a local focus: this means you can cover a national story but from a local angle. The idea is to engage your community.Must be third-person objective, not first-person or subjective—ever. This means you will never use “I” or “me.”This means you will never say, “I interviewed…”In fact, you will never say, “In an interview…”You cannot pass judgment in any way. This means you can’t say, “Unfortunately” when you report something sad or unfortunate, nor can you say, “Fortunately” or use any other term that shows your judgment or bias or feelings.

Personal Concept of Leadership With An Ethical Emphasis Term Paper

Table of Contents The issue of being ethical Personal value system Different ethical codes Four ethical behaviors Conclusion The issue of being ethical The issue of being ethical is one of the most controversial ones. Despite the numerous definitions and classifications of moral behaviors, the understanding of what is right or wrong still varies among different individuals. There is a multitude of facts that influence one’s perception of ethics; upbringing is one of the most important. In my opinion, it is almost impossible for a person to, for example, read a book where it is said that lying is wrong and become honest though they had been successfully lying during all their conscious lives. The personal understanding of what is ethical obviously derives from personal experiences. However, every individual can and should try to estimate a unique value system and support it with their own behaviors. Personal value system While talking about my personal value system, I cannot avoid mentioning honesty, trust, respect, and empathy. These are the central values that I will never neglect; they all are equally significant for me, and I believe that they form something that is called my dignity. I think that these four values can be a sufficient basis for becoming a more ethical individual. For instance, the behaviors derived from the mentioned values will be indisputably ethical. Indeed, honesty is one of the critical features of an ethical individual. First of all, it is essential, to be honest with oneself. This will allow evaluating the surrounding world and personal feelings objectively. In addition, it is necessary, to be honest with other people. A real person is free, as freedom lies not in saying whatever you want but in telling the truth. While we often lie to cover our own mistakes, it is worth trying to live in a way that suggests being proud of our own deeds. The next behavior, the trustful one, is also critical. From my point of view, a person is trustworthy only if they are innocent. In other words, it is vital to develop an ability to trust, as this leads people to a new level of relationships. If a person is open to other people, they will accept others and support them. That is why I think that trust is key to a healthy perception of relationships. Another behavior that can help to become a more ethical individual suggests being respectful towards other people. We all consider ourselves to be compliant enough; however, everyone, with no exception, has some prejudices. Respect means accepting all the people and tolerating their rights. If you have some prejudices towards some social groups or individuals, it can be very challenging to show respect to them. That proves one’s more than being an ethical personality demands a lot of work and effort. The last behavior, which is based on showing empathy, is probably the hardest to follow. Mainly its challenge lies in the fact that it can be tough to understand another person and share their feelings because of a number of factors. Even if people are eager to show empathy, they often lack knowledge about each others’ feelings. As a famous Latin proverb says, “Homo homini lupus est,” which means “a man to a man is a wolf”; modern society seems to be best proving this idea. That is why I think that empathy is a quality that can make people be more ethical. Different ethical codes All the named behaviors can help an individual to become more ethical and live harmonically in society. However, they are not universal: different purposes or spheres of life may need other moral codes. For instance, many of us have at least once in our lives faced a situation when they have to organize the work of a group of people; but only some of us managed to become successful leaders. Therefore, it is essential to define which ethical principles which will help to achieve maximal effectiveness in leading different organizations. In my opinion, the four primary ethical behaviors which need to be engaged in such a purpose are impartiality, strictness, responsibility, and determination. Get your 100% original paper on any topic done in as little as 3 hours Learn More The most important behavior is undoubtedly being impartial. For a successful leader, it is unacceptable to have favorites or prejudiced attitudes towards someone. The workers of the organization should be in similar conditions. They have to feel that what they do is just as important as what their partners do; in this case, they will feel equal responsibility. A clerk should treat the process of sorting out the papers as seriously as the head of the office treats essential conferences. Such an attitude to the job can be developed only by an ultimately impartial leader of an organization. The second feature which I find essential for leadership ethics is strictness. Nowadays there is a popular idea that the relationships between the chief and the workers should be friendly. However, I don’t think that such a principle can help the company to achieve the best results. In my opinion, a real leader should be strict to some extinct. Firstly, this quality will make them authority for the workers, as a strict person is always respected. Secondly, a stern boss is the best stimuli for the workers to perform their best. However, being strict does not mean neglecting human rights; an authoritarian leader should help the workers to behave according to the given limitations. The next ethical behavior is based on a feeling of responsibility. Interestingly, this feature is usually demanded from workers, but in fact, it is even more critical to have a responsible organizer of the company. Realizing how many people are dependent on you is a quality that stimulates the leader to organize the work of the company properly. Furthermore, a responsible chief is hard-working and devoted to his job; thus, he encourages his workers to be the same, which increases their operating efficiency. That is why I have chosen responsibility as one of the four critical ethical behaviors of a successful leader. The last principle which should be followed by the leaders is determination. A company can be considered as a live organism with hundreds of organs. All of them should cooperate; moreover, this cooperation should be prolific. That is why there is always a need for a person who would manage to control all the parts of the organism and stimulate them to work together. Here is where determination should occur. A determined leader always has a target point and knows how to coordinate the company in order to reach it. If the team is determined, they will achieve success for sure. Thus, a determination is also essential for a successful leader. Four ethical behaviors Having described the four ethical behaviors for proper organization of the company, I faced a few issues. Namely, the organizational moral beliefs may not always coincide with the personal system of values of a particular individual. For instance, I feel that organizing some companies or groups of people demand a specific way of thinking and behaving. I can barely think of the leaders who achieved much being mild and extremely tolerant with their workers. That is why my vision of a successful leader implies a number of personal qualities that do not really coincide with my system of values. Therefore, the question occurs: is it possible to be a successful leader without changing personal values? Naturally, a person who is responsible for leading some organization should be aware of what they are expected to do. It is of vital importance to develop the skills and features which can help to be a successful leader. However, if strictness is desirable ethical behavior for a leader, it does not necessarily mean that strictness belongs to the personal values of that person. While I have named trust as one of my fundamental personal matters, I still realize that in some situations, this quality is unnecessary. For instance, a real leader should be impartial, which does not mean sharing all the secrets with the whole team. Such conflict of behaviors occurs due to the fact that every sphere of human life demands specific codes. Understanding which qualities are desirable in one sphere and unnecessary in other can help to achieve much in all the sorts of relationships, including family, friends, or working. In fact, in order to preserve both the personal values and different ethical behaviors, one has to try to find a balance between the mentioned codes. What I mean by that is that there should be no situation in which an ethical behavior excludes the humanistic principles. In my case, being even the most determined leader, I should not forget about respect towards other people. Of course, it is essential to have an aim and go strictly to it, but only in case it does not imply neglecting the other people’s rights. I believe that it is possible to combine the various ethical behaviors with the system of values; despite the controversial character of ethics itself, one just has to always judge the situation objectively. We will write a custom Term Paper on Personal Concept of Leadership With An Ethical Emphasis specifically for you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Conclusion In conclusion, it can be said that the different spheres of life may demand other ethical behaviors. In the field of organizational activity, these are impartiality, strictness, responsibility, and determination. These behaviors, however, should also be combined with personal values, such as honesty, tryst, respect, and empathy.
