Economic Justice for All in the United States Essay. Introduction Economic activities are the main pillars of development in nations. They produce goods and services that are required by people to manage their daily activities. This means that business activities are indispensable in all societies. The need to ensure all regions in a country develop equally has forced nations to establish policies that guide the distribution and use of resources. Also, there are international regulations that control business activities across nations to ensure there are healthy, legal, and moral business activities in all countries. This paper presents a summary and analysis of an article about economic justice for all. Article Summary The article was written by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and is addressed to the government, citizens and other countries. It presents the following issues it claims are very important tin, ensuring economic development does not hinder the activities of other sectors like religion, health, security, and education. The authors identified the position held by this country in the world economy and propose that it is not easy to be an economic superpower and neglect the needs of its citizens (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops 5). This country relies on raw materials from other nations, and thus, it makes decisions that affect their activities. For instance, it established policies that control steelworkers in Pittsburgh. America depends on markets offered by other nations for its products; therefore, it cannot control the future of its economy. Unemployment, poverty, and poor working conditions are other challenges that affect the economic development of this country. Lastly, it spends a lot of money ($300 billion) in producing or procuring weapons, yet its health facilities do not have adequate equipment and staffs. The paper proposes moral visions as essential tools for alleviating the challenges of this country. Also, the article presents a Christian’s perspective of economic life from the Biblical point of view. The authors present that resources should be used to promote the welfare of all citizens, and nobody should enjoy their benefits more than other people (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops 7). They quote the Bible that says people should share what they have with those that do not have to ensure they extend their brotherly love to them. This means that America should use its economic powers to assist poor nations. It also presents ethical norms for economic life to ensure America uses morally acceptable ways to buy, produce, and sell its products. This includes noninterference with the economic or political activities of other nations to force them to trade with it. Also, it presents that institutions should work for greater justice and promotion of the rights of institutions and individuals. Thirdly, the authors believe that America has to examine and change some of its economic policies regarding employment, food, and agriculture, the relationship between its economy and that of developing nations and poverty. This will ensure it addresses issues that affect Americans and their relationship with people from other nations. Also, it addresses issues of unity between the state and private organizations like industries and farms. Moreover, this cooperation includes America’s relationship with other nations and how its policies affect them (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops 15). Also, it highlights the need for America to cooperate with other nations to ensure it achieves its economic objectives. Lastly, it highlights the role of the church in developing the economy of this country. This includes challenges that the church faces when this country adopts policies that affect the human population (family planning and same-sex marriages) and how the government can create a better environment that protects religious beliefs and promotes economic development (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops 37). They argue that this country should ensure love and justice play an important role in determining policies established to strengthen its economy. Analysis There is a close relationship between leadership and religion, but the article fails to explain its contributions to mentoring and regulating the behavior of American leaders. Political leadership in America has always been a hotly contested issue, but these authors have not presented their opinion regarding this issue. Therefore, the authors do not present a two-way approach of ensuring America’s economy develops under responsible leadership (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops 49). However, this issue has not been addressed because there are chances that the authors wanted to distance themselves from politics. Therefore, it is necessary to explain that religious groups play important roles in all nations because it shapes peoples’ opinions regarding leadership and religion. Secondly, all nations face economic challenges like unemployment, inadequate raw materials, and inflation. However, the authors did not address the need for this country to seek assistance from other nations in solving its problems. America’s economy is the largest in the world, and this means that other nations must be having serious employment and poverty issues since they are not as developed as it is. They concentrated their discussion on the challenges facing this country and presented them without considering the achievements of its institutions and leaders in creating employment opportunities, improving health facilities and revamping security within and outside its borders (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops 61). They forgot that when a country develops its challenges increase, and that is why America is perceived to have more problems than other countries. The need for moral visions has been highlighted as a central issue that determines the economic development of a country. This perception is wrong because America is a metropolitan country and international hub for economic and political activities (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops 75). Therefore, it is impossible to achieve a tradition that respects the need for moral visions in economic activities. This explains why it was impossible for these authors to get the attention of institutions and individuals that are responsible for policy formulation. Discussion Questions The paper does not address the need for religious leaders to be involved in economic decision making. What is the role of religion in America’s economic activities? When should people differentiate between production for economic gains and satisfaction of human needs? If America decides to consider the recommendations made by these authors, will its position as the world’s economic superpower be compromised? Can America sustain its economic progress and satisfy the needs of its citizens without establishing and enforcing exploitative policies in other countries? Conclusion The views and beliefs held by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to ensure the economy of the United States develops without violating the rules of natural, moral and religious beliefs may be better alternatives to develop this country. However, there was a need to involve other stakeholders like politicians, sociologists, and engineers in this discussion. America is a developed nation and faces serious social, political, and economic challenges, just like other countries do. Therefore, these authors should not focus on the evils of America’s economic policies and ignore the need for this country to maintain its position in the international market. Read Case Study Case 15.2 “Ebony Bath Soap”, and then complete the following items. For Questions 1 and 2 of the case, use the Palisade DecisionTools Excel software to set up a simulation model and run a simulation with 500 trials for the case. Ensure that all Palisade software output is included in your files and that only one Excel file is open when running a simulation. Use the “Topic 3 Case Study Template” file as a starting point. Hint: The RiskSimtable function will be helpful for running the simulations.Respond to Question 3 as written in the case study. Respond to Questions 4, 5, and 6 as written in the case study.15.2 Ebony Bath Soap Case StudyManagement of Ebony, a leading manufacturer of bath soap, is trying to control its inventory costs. The weekly cost of holding one unit of soap in inventory is $30 (one unit is 1000 cases of soap). The marketing department estimates that weekly demand averages 120 units, with a standard deviation of 15units, and is reasonably well modeled by a normal distribution. If demand exceeds the amount of soap on hand, those sales are lost—that is, there is no backlogging of demand. The production department can produce at one of three levels: 110, 120, or 130units per week. The cost of changing the production level from one week to the next is $3000.Management would like to evaluate the following production policy. If the current inventory is less than L=30 units, they will produce 130 units in the next week. If the current inventory is greater than U=80 units, they will produce 110 units in the next week. Otherwise, Ebony will continue at the previous week’s production level.Ebony currently has 60 units of inventory on hand. Last week’s production level was 120.Questions1.Develop a simulation model for 52 weeks of operation at Ebony. Graph the inventory of soap over time. What is the total cost (inventory cost plus production change cost) for the 52 weeks?2.Run the simulation for 500 iterations to estimate the average 52-week cost with values of U ranging from 30 to 80 in increments of 10. Keep L=30 throughout.3.Report the sample mean and standard deviation of the 52-week cost under each policy. Graph the average 52-week cost versus U. What is the best value of U for UUL=30?4.What other production policies might be useful to investigate?5.Based on the simulation results, discuss the Annual Cost output statistical distributions. EXAMPLES:
1)
The course has helped me understand neurotransmission fundamentals as it relates to prescribing psychotropic medications for clients with acute and chronic mental health conditions. When one has an imbalance, it can cause a multitude of problems, such as neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) which will cause the patient to have fever, altered mental status, muscle rigidity, and autonomic dysfunction (Berman, 2011). I learned that complimentary and alternative medicine (CAM) can be used as part of the patient treatment plan, such as in assisting in treating depression or relieving depressive symptoms. This course has also taught me the importance of understanding the legal and ethical considerations during pharmacological treatment of psychiatric issues, especially when using them for off-label purposes. I also learned that many herbs and supplements can cause interactions with prescribed medications and the importance of teaching clients reports all herbs, supplements, or over-the-counter medications that they are taking. I also learned that the importance of using research and to provide basic diagnostic and pharmacological education to my patient and their family.

2)
This course was able to help me articulate and understand the fundamentals of neurotransmitters and how the imbalance of neurotransmitters can cause mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, to name a few. For example, serotonin deficiency can cause depression (Stahl, 2017). This course has also taught me how complimentary and alternative medicine (CAM) can be utilized as a part of the treatment plan. At times CAM modalities may be used to prevent polypharmacy and prevent significant side effects. Also, many supplements and herbs can cause side effects and interaction with other medications, so it is crucial to take herbs and supplements into consideration during treatment planning. I have also learned how essential it is to consider many factors such as medical concerns, age, gender, cultural factors, genetic factors, ethical concerns, patient’s values, and presriptive authority when prescribing psychotropic medications. In addition, I have also learned how crucial it is to educate the patients on the medication that is prescribed, its side effects, and the medications or foods that may interact with the medication prescribed. I have also learned how important to educate the patient on how certain medications can cause dependence on them, such as benzodiazepines. It is critical to consider the patient’s history before prescribing these medications to prevent addiction and overdose. Most importantly, I have learned how vital it is to utilize evidence-based practice when prescribing these psychotropic medications to prevent harm to the patient and for them to have the best outcome.
