You decide to complete a genogram. How you would explain the purpose and function of the genogram to Marco and Maria? Discuss what information the genogram could provide to you. Explain how that information could be used to articulate a diagnosis and assist with developing a treatment intervention strategy. Marco and Maria Transcript Maria: I’m so pleased you can help us. We’re here because Marco is having such a hard time lately. I’m Maria, his Grandma, but he’s lived with me for twelve years, since he was two, when [strident, angry] his Mama went to jail for killing that no-good man she was living with. I know he’s Marco’s Dad, but he wouldn’t even ever marry her! [sweetly] Juan and Elisa, they’re just 10 and 9, you saw them in the waiting room? They’re Marco’s cousins. My son Carlos’s babies. God rest their souls. Carlos and their mama died in a car crash six years ago. [sniffles] I’m takin’ care of these kids the best I can. [deep sad sigh] They are my grandbabies after all and I’m all they got. But I been sick lately. Been in the hospital a couple times just this month. Julia, she goes to church with me, she took care of them all while I’s gone. But Marco here, he was so bad for her I’m not sure she’ll do it again if I get sick again.
Marco: I don’t understand why we’re here. I’m fine…I just want everyone to leave me alone. You know I don’t like to go out…I rather stay in my room and watch movies. Yeah, I don’t want to go to school. Who cares? I know you keep goin’ on about how my grades have dropped. But, geez, Grandma, what does it matter? Maria [distracted]: Wait… Is that Juan and Elisa screaming out there? Just a moment… Marco, I don’t know how to help you? I want you to be happy, and have dreams and aspirations. Remember, when you were two, you told me you wanted to be a firefighter? You gotta graduate to do that. Marco: Who cares about the future? No one loves me. You’re always with Elisa and Juan. [mocking] Grammy, help me. Grammy, feed me. Grammy, play with me. [muttering darkly] You never have time for me. [deep angry sigh] Maria: Oh, honey, we do love you, and I want you to be a role model for Juan and Elisa and get better so you can help me take care of them. I always counted on you before. But what happened? Like when Julia had to come. You could have helped so much. But you didn’t! Marco: Acho Julia? La alcahueta that didn’t even come once to my room to check on me! Why? Because I don’t matter, I’m not important… If I were, Mom would be here with me! But no, she’s in jail. And, and I hate to visit her there. I get nervous, angry, and start sweating [getting quieter] ‘cause I’m afraid to end like them all in there. I mean, she’s my Mom and I got her genes. You know, I feel like that when I go to school. Everything starts to close in, and I’m so scared someone is going to ask me about my parents. What the hell would I tell them? My mom’s in jail cuz she killed my dad. That’ll win me some friends! When I think about school…I don’t wanna eat, I feel sick, an’ can’t sleep. Maria [gently]: I want you to get help, Marco. That’s why we’re here. Marco: Anda pa’l carajo! Like anyone can help me. Everyone keeps saying I’m not a “nice” person or, well, you know they use worser words. I hear it at school and at home. It hurts to listen to that and feel worthless sometimes.

World History Part I: 3500 BCE – 1500 C.E. FINAL
World History Part I: 3500 BCE – 1500 C.E. FINAL.
Part II – Analytical Essays (5 points each)
For this essay you should use our textbook by Robert Strayer, including all of the primary sources, lecture slides, and any of the resources I’ve posted under the videos and links. You may not use any other outside sources.
There are TWO ESSAYS that you must complete. Each essay must be carefully thought out, well organized, and contain:
· Introduction – Must include a thesis statement, which identifies your argument and lays out how you intend to support your argument.
· Primary Sources – We’ve been exploring a variety of primary sources in the Strayer book. You may use as many as you need, but no fewer than 2 primary sources for EACH essay, to answer the questions below. Be sure to cite the primary source by indicating in a footnote or parenthetical the document or visual source. For example, “Strayer, Doc. 1.1, p. 47”.
· Analysis – I am not looking for you to repeat facts and dates. I am looking for you to construct an argument using facts, primary sources and course materials to support your thesis statement.
· Conclusion – Your conclusion should tie together your argument and sum up your overall essay.
· Works Cited – You must include a works cited/bibliography. Failure to do so will result in the loss of 1 point.
· No Outside Materials – You do not need and, in fact, should not use outside materials to complete this assignment.
At the beginning of the course we discussed the Eight Key Features of Civilization (See Course Documents for Review). Having now looked at 5000 years or so of human history, please consider the following:
· How relevant or accurate are these attributes when we consider the societies/civilizations we’ve discussed?
· Do you find these features compelling in helping to determine what makes a civilization?
· Are these features set in stone or is there more of a sliding scale of relevance?
· Do you think that they accurately describe the civilizations that we have looked at this semester? Do they sometimes apply and sometimes not apply? To that end, pick two of the features and relate them to two different civilizations that either do or do not exhibit these traits. Your answer should be two-three pages.
Over the semester we have looked at several ways of presenting history to an audience: documentaries, text, myths, etc. With that in mind, please consider the following:
· Which medium for conveying historical information did you find the most compelling? The most effective?
· In your response you should argue which medium found best (most compelling, interesting, and effective) and relate it back to a specific example that we’ve seen in class and discuss the content it covers. For example, if you are arguing that a documentary is a very good way of doing history, you should choose one of the documentaries we’ve examined in class and then provide two examples of how that documentary does a good job of covering the material discussed in lecture and in the book. Please examine two examples of whatever medium you thought was best. Your answer should be two-three pages.
· While this might seem like a pure opinion question, I am actually asking you to make an argument so be sure to limit the use of “I”.

John Berger’s “Ways of Seeing” and Damon Krukowski’s “Ways of Hearing”
John Berger’s “Ways of Seeing” and Damon Krukowski’s “Ways of Hearing”.
For this assignment, you will choose a passage to write about from one of the following essays in order to address a relevant theme related to either “seeing vs looking” or “hearing vs listening”. • John Berger’s “Ways of Seeing” • Damon Krukowski’s “Ways of Hearing” In the first part of your paper, summarize the passage of the essay that you have chosen. Your summary should demonstrate that you understand what’s happening in the passage, as well as the essay. Your summary should give the reader a good understanding of either Berger’s or Krukowski’s overarching idea throughout the essay without having to read it. You should also describe relevant details and their roles in the passage. This summary will likely be one-two paragraphs, and must be in your own words. NOTE: -The passage you select will be a section in the essay that you will closely analyze as a way to show the reader how this section serves as an example from the text that highlights how either Berger or Krukowski addresses the question of whatever you end up choosing as your focus. Example: In John Berger’s Ways of Seeing, you could narrow your scope to focus on the relationship between interpretation and mystification regarding how we “look” at paintings. In the second part of your paper, you will respond to the passage in the essay with your own analysis. The response is a critique of the passage in the essay you have just summarized, and it should include your ideas about the meaning and the context of the passage. Here are some questions to help you: -The passage you select will be a moment in the story that you will closely analyze as a way to essay the reader how this moment serves as an example from the text that highlights how either Berger or Krukowski addresses the question you choose to explore. -How does this passage help move the story along? -What happens in the passage that changes the course of the essay? How does it do so? -What happens in the passage that clarifies either Berger’s or Krukowski’s idea(s)? How does it do so? -Does this passage illuminate the question you have chosen to explore? -Why do you think Berger or Krukowski included this passage in the essay? What would be missing if he had left it out? -What do you think Berger or Krukowski intended to say to the reader in this passage? How does it change your understanding of the story as a whole? In the third part of your paper, write one paragraph on how you feel about the passage and what you associate it with. How did your feelings change after you summarized and analyzed it? To summarize what we’re looking for: 1) In part one of the essay, I’m are looking for your ability to understand the essay and relay that understanding in your own words. 2) In part two, I’m asking you to read critically and analytically. Think about the passage – question it. What is it significance to the reader or to the logic of either Berger or Krukowski’s reasoning? Does it shed light on some greater meaning in the sessaybeyond the logic? 3) In Part three, I’d would like to hear your own personal reflections on the passage. http://waysofseeingwaysofseeing.com/ways-of-seeing-john-berger-3.9.pdf https://www.google.com/books/edition/Ways_of_Hearing/4o2NDwAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&printsec=frontcover
