Motivations of Private-Sector Organizations

Motivations of Private-Sector Organizations.

Presidential Policy Directive 8 (PPD-8) is part of the national preparedness goal and provides a description for preparing for the threats in an all-hazards approach that pose the greatest risk to the United States. Community preparedness is a shared responsibility of the whole community. In addition to the public sector and all levels of government and tribes, the private-sector and nonprofit-sector organizations such as the Red Cross and Salvation Army all contribute to keeping the nation safe.

The National Preparedness Goal can only be achieved by focusing on the five key core mission areas, as follows: Prevention: Preventing acts of terrorism. Protection: Human, physical, and virtual assets must be protected against all threats and hazards to ensure and maintain the safety and security of the homeland. Mitigation: Implementing programs that reduce overall consequences such as the loss of life and property by lessening the effect of critical and catastrophic incidents. Response: First responders must have the capability and capacity to respond effectively to manage critical incidents to save lives, protect property, and the environment regardless of the incident. Recovery: The public sector must work in a collaborative partnership with the private sector to make timely repairs to critical infrastructure such as restoration of power and helping return communities and businesses back to a sense of normalcy and regular operations. To complete this assignment, refer back to the city or jurisdiction you selected to write about in your Weeks 1 and 2 IPs. Also, use the five previous private-sector organizations you selected in your Week 1 IP. You will write a paper of 800–1,000 words in APA format that includes the following information:

Identify the top 2 most prevalent natural disaster hazards and the 2 most prevalent man-made hazards or threats for that jurisdiction. Describe all 4 threats in detail. Define protection, and explain how each of the five private-sector organizations can collaboratively partner with the city to better protect the community from each of the four threats that you profiled. Please submit your assignment.

Comparative Analysis of immigration;A good comparative analysis will consist of: a) brief thumbnail sketches of the authors’ arguments/analyses (side-by-side, in their own terms); b) compare and contrast between the authors’ claims and positions relevan.

Basically just need to compare two works and provide my own thoughts towards those works after.

works are either: Mudde & Bauman OR Ambrose/Mudde & Park (will provide access to those documents).

description of comparative analysis by professor:

First, let me state that the formatting for the assignments should be 12 pt. font, double-spaced. Citations can be a variety of styles, so long as you are consistent and you make use of common sense (what are citations for? what does someone referring to them need to know?). Other formatting issues (use of sub-headings, etc.) I leave to you, but again, please use common sense – for e.g. a full inch of space between paragraphs is unnecessary and gives the appearance of insufficient content, so it’s best to avoid doing this.
A good comparative analysis will consist of:

a) brief thumbnail sketches of the authors’ arguments/analyses (side-by-side, in their own terms);

b) compare and contrast between the authors’ claims and positions relevant to their arguments/analyses;

c) evaluative commentary on your part as to which argument/analysis is more accurate/compelling/useful.

I would just add that the ideal proportions for each section are something like: 2 pages/4 pages/1 page (though this is approximate, rather than a fixed standard)

In general, I would add that you while want to start out from the position of reporting accurately (if briefly) about what author x says, and then what author y says, you should construct the whole paper around the comparison between them, meaning that you can sideline aspects of each piece that don’t seem relevant for the comparison between them. Certainly do not begin with the intent of presenting a paragraph-by-paragraph summary of each piece, side by side, tacking on a comparison between them at the end. Knowing the points of comparison between the pieces before you attempt to summarize either one will help you write an economical presentation, even of how each piece stands on its own.

Also, about the comparison itself: the difference between pieces will not always be (frequently will not be) an obvious polemical disagreement, where one author says “A” and the other says “not-A”. Often the difference will be more in the order of how the same issue looks from different perspectives (conceptual, historical, etc.) and your job will be to compare what can be learned from those different perspectives, to bring them into conversation with each other. Imagine what one author would say to the other upon hearing a presentation of their paper, and vice versa.

So don’t feel bound by the comparative nature of the assignment to push authors into an outright (polemical) disagreement with one another. They may sometimes even agree with one another, broadly, but still have points of contention vis-a-vis what their different perspectives have taught them about what is important about and how best to conceptualize an issue.

I aced the first one but dont have time to do the second one because of exam season. Let me know if you’d like to look at my first comparative analysis to get a grasp of it!
