Elec company is specialized in importing and distributing electronic and electrical products in Sri Lanka market. Their product range consist of television, home theater systems, digital cameras, kitchen appliances, refrigerators, gas burners and ovens, washing machines and personal computers. The organization wants to make use of their promotional effort to the maximum so that they are planning to come up with an integrated marketing promotions to support the selling activities. Company is going to develop the sales structure and required to add few more people there to support the expansion. After that explained how sales representative could make use of database in setting effective sales management programmed. Then developed a sales plan to promote electronic and electrical items. Finally investigate the opportunities for using exhibitions or trade fairs to promote the electronic and electrical items to the target customers. Currently it is covering the main cities in the country with ten sales representatives. They all report to one sales manager who is located in the head office. They go on filed visits and make sales to B2B shops which are operating all over Sri Lanka. Some times their sales trips spring to two or three days in filed, before they make the next sales visit. But, their selling tasks within the company are not properly organized. In many occasions, they met together, since there is no proper field visit scheduling done. Sales records are poorly maintained. The company wants to restructure their business operations and align the sales operations to match with the organizational objective. The company wants to streamline the sales channel and expand the business operations to achieve the organization’s corporate objective. The company is willing to implement a proper planning and monitoring system to have a better quality sales operation and to increase the profitability. Personal selling Personal selling is where businesses use the sales force to sell the product after meeting face-to-face with the customer. The sellers promote the product through their attitude, appearance and specialist product knowledge. They aim to inform and encourage the customer to buy, or at least trial the product. A good example of personal selling is found in department stores on the perfume and cosmetic counters. A customer can get advice on how to apply the product and can try different products. Products with relatively high prices, or with complex features, are often sold using personal selling. Great examples include cars, office equipment and many products that are sold by businesses to other industrial customers. Point-of-sale merchandising can be said to be a specialist form of personal selling. POS merchandising involves face-to-face contact between sales representatives of producers and the retail trade. A merchandiser will visit a range of suitable retail premises in his/her area and encourage the retailer to stock products from a range. The visit also provides the opportunity for the merchandiser to check on stock levels and to check whether the product is being displayed optimally. Eurocentrism is the belief that the culture in the European countries is superior to other cultures. People judge the cultural practices and beliefs of others by the standards of their own culture and conclude that their culture is better than the others. Societies have different cultures based on different factors that make people come together and adopt a certain custom that evolves into a tradition, which is passed down from one generation to the next. When people from different societies come together, they face traditions they are not used to and the most common reaction is to judge the other person’s culture based on the one they are used to. This is how Eurocentrism rises when the people in the European countries view the cultures of other societies as inferior. It arises not only in culture, but also in products that may be believed to be of superior quality based on their origin; a European product may be viewed as superior simply because it is from a European country. In the 1880s, the Canadians had a practice performed by the North-West Coast Natives, where they celebrated the hereditary name of the host, as well as presented gifts of possession (Robbins and Dewar 2011: 4). This ceremony was called the Potlatch ceremony and its aim was to, “maintain the strength and social unity of the group” (Steckley and Letts 2011: 83). The rank of the party hosting the ceremony was established based on the quantity of the gifts they gave away; the more the gifts the host gave, the higher his rank in the Native Canadian society was deemed to be. The ceremony was, however, banned in 1884 by the Canadian government. This ban was declared after numerous protests by the church and a spread of rumors that the natives were becoming hostile. It all began when the Canadians started using the European products and the natives started competing for hierarchy (Aikenhead and Michell, 2011: 34). The competition led some of the natives to destroy their property in the belief that their wealth was so much that they had no need for some of it. The church was against what they considered to be pagan practices and it strongly objected the practice that encouraged pagan traditions. The church viewed the indigenous practices as inferior because they were alien to the Christians; the native people used instruments such as drums and masks, among others and had unique dances (Steckley and Letts 2011: 86). This difference unnerved the Christians, who reacted by protesting against the practice and claimed it was not right. The protests contributed greatly to the banning of the ceremony in 1884. Decades after the practice, a group of people who were top ranking members of the Kwakiutl were arrested and a great number imprisoned (Robbins and Dewar 2011: 6). Their possessions were given away to museums and people who collected art. In 1951, the ban on the Potlatch ceremony was lifted, but the property remained in the museums until 1975 (Aikenhead and Michell 2011: 43). The church and the western community at large rejected the practices of the natives of North-West Canada because they were not in line with their norms, which they believed to be superior and correct. They did not understand the traditions of the natives; therefore, they dismissed them and made all efforts to eliminate the traditions. Global Health Agenda Global health is becoming of more and more importance with the ease of travel and mobility of people (Milstead, 2016). This has in a sense aided the spread and management of communicable diseases such as HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis, and reemerging diseases such as polio and measles (Milstead, 2016). Prevention of the spread of communicable diseases is definitely at the top of the list when it comes to the global health agenda. Also of equal importance is providing aid and resources during environmental disasters such as the tsunami in Thailand and the earthquake in Haiti that left many devastated and destitute (Milstead, 2016). That being said social and economic justice also comes into play when discussing the global health platform (Milstead, 2016). Social justice involves the fair and ethical treatment of all human being and a right to health and life (Milstead, 2016). The economic agenda realizes the economic impact of poor health and pandemic outbreaks, and takes into consideration the growing markets of goods, pharmaceuticals, and services when it pertains to health (Busch, 2011). The Millennium Development Goals (MGDs)were goals established by the United Nations to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, improve universal primary education, have a reduction of child mortality rates, fight malaria, TB and other communicable disease, improve maternal outcomes, protect the environment, and develop global partnerships for for development (Nickitas, Middaugh, &Aries, 2016). World Health Organization (WHO)Opportunities to AdvanceThere have been many areas when the nurse practitioner and other disciplines can take an active approach in combating the global health issues. If direct care overseas is not possible from the practitioner, then education is always an available avenue. There are many of the neglected tropical disease (NTDs) and MGDs the care giver can educate the patient and public about, just increasing awareness and advocating for basic knowledge of these can place these topics in the spotlight (Smith, &Taylor, 2013). Nurses and other disciplines also have opportunities to serve overseas where foreign aid is needed during times of environmental disasters. The WHO relies on nurses to get involved and take an active role in being engaged and empowered, and to bring their unique training, knowledge to the political arena to help of push policies that future the global agenda (Nickitas, 2016). The WHO helps empower nurses and gives them a platform to then assist in preparing a global strategy (Nickitas, 2016). Multiculturalism and Diversity Nurses and other care givers understand the complexity and diversity of the world as it is today. Nurses must always strive to deliver culturally competent and compassionate care in order to take part in assisting the progression of the social and economic agenda of maintaining healthy and productive societies (Nickitas, 2016). Regardless of race, class, religion, etcetera chronic illness, social determinants of health, and health disparities will occur in the patients that we care for, and it is the nurse’s responsibility to be ethical and to practice with altruism (Nickitas, 2016).
