ASSIGNMENT:

Moon (2007) noted four levels of reflective writing. Level 1 is descriiptive but contains little reflection. Level 2 is descriiptive with some reflection but lacks depth. Level 3 is descriiptive, focused, and shows some analysis and self-questioning. Level 4 shows clear evidence of standing back from the event, deep reflection, self-questioning that also takes the views and motives of others into account, and observations that learning has occurred.

Using the SEA change model of reflection, you move through these stages to perform a critical analysis of the situation, evidence, and answers/actions:

S – Situation. What is the question/problem – the trigger for the reflection?

E – Evidence. What is the evidence?

A – Answer and Action. What is the answer? What action is needed?

The outcome of the process is change or new learning and continued reflection.

In an original response:

Select a situation in which decision making related to leadership required critical thinking and reflection.
Describe the situation using the SEA acronym.
Through SEA, engage as deeply as possible in Moore’s Level 4 reflection process. What change or new learning resulted from the process? Do you continue to reflect on this situation? Why?

An Ethical Dilemma

An Ethical Dilemma.

Description Mary Alice is an HR generalist assigned to the Norwalk plant of FMC Inc. She has worked at the plant for six years and knows many of the employees, both as co-workers and from community activities. For the past several months, Mary Alice has been involved in confidential discussions regarding several of the Norwalk production processes moving to the Huntsville plant, which is operating under capacity. Only a handful of the Norwalk employees will be offered the opportunity to move to Huntsville and about 200 employees will be laid off. The announcement is going to be made in 60 days. At a school fundraiser last evening, Ralph, a co-worker who is most likely going to be laid off, spent time talking with Mary Alice about the new home he was purchasing. The mortgage is at the limit of what Ralph’s family can afford, but as he explained to Mary Alice, with FMC doing so well and the likelihood of him getting overtime in the coming year, well, they could just about swing it. Mary Alice was conflicted. She wanted to tell Ralph about the coming layoffs, but she was bound by her pledge of confidentiality regarding the layoff discussions. Also, if she said something to Ralph, it would undoubtedly get out and perhaps cause a panic and eliminate the chance for an orderly transition to the smaller operation in Norwalk, hurting plant productivity in the meantime. Mary Alice can’t seem to find a way to make a decision. What should Mary Alice do and why? Write a short paper that addresses the following: Describe two ethical philosophies that might help with the decision. Make a recommendation for how you would advise Mary Alice to act. Provide a description of the process you used to arrive at the recommendation. Are there limitations or possilbe unintended consequences associated with your recommendations? Explain and justify your claims. Things to Remember! Write a short paper 2 to 3 pages in length (not including title and reference pages)

Crime Scene Searches

Crime Scene Searches.

You have responded to a crime scene at a local high school. Apparently a bomb has been detonated in the student parking lot. Two vehicles have been destroyed and burned as a result of the explosion from the bomb. As the vehicles burned, they exploded in two separate explosions, sending debris into an adjacent four-acre field utilized for football practice. You have called the local AFT office, and you were advised that there were no agents available to respond to your situation, as they are all busy fighting terrorism; you must work the crime scene on your own. You have decided to set up a search of both the parking lot, which is littered with debris, and the four-acre field. Your goal is to find fragments or remains of the original bomb. The lead investigator who is assigned to the case wants you to advise him of how you will handle the search in order to maximize the results. What instructions and search patterns will you advise the searchers to utilize for a thorough search of the entire crime scene? Types of searches Grid search. This search is a variation of the strip search, divided into strips that run at a 90 degree angle to each other. It is used mostly outdoors, and it provides a double check or a second look by a single searcher and lessens the possibility that evidence is overlooked. Zone search. There are two different types of zone searches: when dealing with small confined spaces and when a larger area is subdivided into smaller areas that can be managed easier. It depends on how large the area is as to how many zones are sectioned off. A searcher is then usually assigned to each zone, if there are multiple searchers. If there is one searcher, another search method is used within each zone, such as the strip search. (5) Point-to-point search. This is a method that is not used often, as it is not very systematic. Paths are cleared to the focal point, the area cleared around that point, and then a path is cleared to the next focal point. This continues until all the areas are cleared . The description of each basic pattern for searching a crime scenes shows the best method a crime scene investigator should use based on the type of crime scene it is. In this case there are essentially two different crime scenes and different methods should be used for each scene to gather evidence. The initial crime scene is the school parking lot and the second crime scene is that of the four-acre field where the debris from the explosion settled.

Reply to at least 2 of your classmates. Be constructive and professional in your responses Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words ———————————————————————————————————————————————————— Q1: What is the trend of business cycles, are expansions getting longer or shorter over time? Q2: There are 4 parts to the business cycle. When given a visual representation, it looks much like a roller coaster with ups and downs. The four parts of the business cycle are peak, recession, trough, and expansion.. The peak is the highest point of activity. The downward slope during this time is called a recession. During this time business activity is declining and decreasing. Recessions are considered to be a minimum of two business quarters long (6 months). prolonged and severe recessions can turn into depressions. The third phase is trough, in which is considered the lowest point of business activity in a cycle. When we begin to leave this phase and begin to gradually regain activity, this recovery is considered an expansion. A simple example to apply the business cycle is to use a Beach Store. A beach store typically sales seasonal items such as swimwear, gear, and accessories. During the summer, these business will be at their peak, they will be most active during May, June, July, and August. By the middle of August, families with children usually have to return to school, and are unlikely to be at the beach. Sales begin to slowly decline by mid august and September. Beaches are usually not a popular place for the following 6 or 7 months due to the weather. Due to these circumstances, the beach store is facing the trough phase with little to no business at all. Finally, as spring rolls around business eventually picks back up as people begin purchasing relevant goods for the upcoming spring and summer months.
