HRPO 2307 Richland College Organizational Behavior Communication Discussion.

Phase 3 of the Organizational Behavior-in-Action Project in this Organizational Behavior course contains two interesting activities. Instructions: Please single space your work, with one blank line between each paragraph. Identify each section as Part 1: (a), (b), etc…..then Part 2. Part 1: Your Professional Life Languages contains a section entitled Clues for Communication. This section provides very insightful information about how to relate better with individuals who communicate fluently (either their first, second, or third Life Language) through each of the seven Life Languages. In addition, you can learn to communicate more effectively and efficiently through each of the 7 Life Languages by studying the list of positive traits that are printed on the right column of each Clues for Communication page. For example, if your supervisor’s primary (1st) Life Language is Mover, but it is your 5th, 6th, or 7th Life Languages, you might not possess as many of the positive traits in this particular Life Language as your supervisor does. However, you can review the list of traits for the Mover Language on the Mover Clues for Communications page in order to better understand your high Mover supervisor. You can also begin to practice some of those positive Mover traits in order to relate to and communicate better with your supervisor through that particular Life Language. (a) Review the Clues for Communication pages for all seven of the Life Languages. In two paragraphs that contain 5 to 7 sentences each, discuss what you learned about yourself and others that will help you to more effectively work with and/or relate to others. (b) Identify three (personal and/or professional) relationships that you believe will be improved as a result of the information that you learned about these unique Clues for Communication. Explain why you selected each relationship in three or more sentences per relationship. Part 2: Listed below are 20 Key Organizational Behavior terms and concepts. Select 10 of those terms and/or concepts and write a one-paragraph single-spaced explanation of how the information you learned about yourself and others through reading your detailed Professional Life Languages Profile—as it relates to each specific key term or concept. Each paragraph should contain five or more complete sentences. Instructions: As instructed above, please single space your work, with one blank line between each paragraph. Number each paragraph in Part 2. Type each key term or concept in Bold print at the beginning of each paragraph—followed by a colon, two horizontal spaces, and then the one paragraph in regular (not bold) print. Also, put in bold print each Life Languages term that you mention in your paragraph. (See a few actual Student Samples below.) IMPORTANT NOTE: Each paragraph that you type regarding a specific key Organizational Behavior term must include specific statements about that term as it relates to one or more of the seven Life Languages. In other words, mention the specific Life Language or Languages as you write about each key term. (See actual students’ sample comments below to read what other students have said when they completed this assignment.) ****************************** Below Are Actual Students’ Sample Comments: (These are Examples Only…Please Create Your Own Comments). 1. Diversity: In the business world today, with all the new technology diversity is magnified ten-fold. I like the fact, that the “influencer” in me is open to new ideas, people, and things. The language of Influencer allows me to be open to the diverse nature of today’s business world and the Mover and Doer in me allow me to communicate with them. I do however, intend on working on my Responder language to allow more of my emotions to come through, so that I will not come across as cold or insensitive to my peers. This class has taught me to identify and improve my weaknesses and to be proud and have confidence in my strengths. This knowledge will allow me to open up more to the diverse atmosphere in my business and help build the social culture in a positive manner. 2. Personality: When I was young, my grandma used to always say “it is easier to attract flies with honey instead of vinegar.” Why anyone would want to attract flies was beyond me at that time. However, now I have an understanding of that phrase and agree with it. In the work environment, as a manager, I would deal with many different personalities. Knowing that I am a high Contemplator and an introvert and low Responder language, I now know that I need to strengthen my social and emotional intelligence to be able to communicate better with several different personalities. This will enable me to be a more open and effective manager. I have developed a stronger self-concept through learning my life languages and will be better prepared to strengthen my personality to a more positive one. 3. Self-Concept: For the first time in my life, I have a better understanding of me and it has helped strengthen my self-concept considerably. This class has opened my eyes and mind to who I am and what makes me tick. I think everyone should have to take the Life Language Assessment and this class. Understanding yourself allows you to be able to interact with others better and that is necessary in the workplace to be an effective manager/employee. Having a better self-concept has enabled me to learn what my strengths and weaknesses are and will make me more of a whole individual, allowing me to be more confident. I believe that employees feel better with a strong, confident manager than with a questioning, weak one. As a high Influencer/Doer and moderate Responder, I also learned a lot about how to communicate through the positive traits and stay away from those distress signals of each language in order to help build the self- concept of others. 4. Emotions: As a high Responder, I have the ability to perceive when others are feeling sad or happy, depressed or overjoyed. By definition, this means I have emotional contagion. Managers who are in touch with their employees emotions can better motivate and lead them because they are able to respond correctly to their emotional needs. Employees will be grateful for managers who take a notice to these needs. These simple observations can make an employee feel appreciated and increase the value of their work. 5. Social Capital: “Carpe Diem” or seize the day is one of the action phrases of my Mover Language. I do believe that this attitude is exactly what is required to create a positive environment, which is perfect for the creation of an excellent social capital. As manager of a company, I would say that it would be in the company’s best interest to “seize the day,” and create such a vibrant environment for our employees that they would love to come to work for us. Innovative thinking and an investment in our human capital would be the best draw for the talent out there. That is why my high Influencer Language is so important. Obtaining the best human capital through positive and alluring social capital would hopefully equate to a winning and profitable organization which would definitely appeal to my high end Mover and Contemplator languages. Maybe this would land the company in the Fortune 500 list as “the place to work”, which would definitely satisfy the “need to achieve” monster in me. 6. Culture Intelligence: The high Contemplator in me is what drives me to want “to know.” I have always had the desire to learn about other cultures and to travel the world. I want to immerse myself into other cultures and hopefully sharpen my skills of Cultural Intelligence. I do have concerns about myself as an introvert and low Producer, because while I have a desire to learn and have taken many culturally diverse classes, I seem to like solitude and some time find the thought of being around a lot of people unbearable. My desire to open myself up to new experiences and cultures, plus my ability to read people would be a great combination in the business world, because I would work on being open enough to increase my skills of cultural intelligence among my staff and send them out into different areas of the world to handle things on my behalf, when I am unable to do so myself. My moderate Influencer will also be a big help in developing my cultural intelligence. 7. Servant Leadership: I decided to start my project with leadership because of the importance that a good leadership has in today’s business world. As a High Shaper/Producer, my major desire in life is to lead, and I will do it with grace and thoughtfulness. I take leadership as a challenge and I am ready to put extra efforts in becoming a great leader and an asset to my company. I tend to be organized and strategic and by clearly communicating my plans, short-term and long-term goals to my team members and superiors, I will have a good base for success. However, my Responder and Influencer languages are low and I really need to improve my communications through these languages in order to be a true Servant Leader. I will do so by studying the positive characteristics of each language and practicing speaking through those languages. 8. Emotional Intelligence: By learning my life languages, I realize now that when I get stressed out, I tend to communicate a lot through the distress signals of my high Doer, Influencer, and Shaper languages. These are my top three languages. Now I know why I sometimes have trouble in my work and personal relationships. Also, my dad, who is also my boss, is a high Responder. This explains why I have conflicts with him, both at home and at work. Responder is my 6th language. It is a low language for me and this helps to explain why my Dad and I have not related well to each other. This amazing project has changed my life, and how I view myself and others. It is my responsible to make appropriate changes, based on what I have learned through this project. I will definitely change my own behaviors and stop communicating through the distress signals. I will also try to determine others’ Life Languages and strive to relate to them through their stronger languages. By doing so, I will be demonstrating more emotional intelligence. Instructions for Creating your Organizational Behavior Paper, Continued: Note To Students: Do not start your sentences with statements like “I learned”, or “Knowledge of this concept will help…..” etc., or any other repetitive statement that can be found in each of your paragraphs. Please try to make your statements in each paragraph original and unique as it relates to that specific term or concept as you write about it–in relationship to the Life Languages. Again, read thoroughly your Professional Life Languages profile. Also make sure that you thoroughly understand the key terms or concepts before typing each of your paragraphs. However, please do not type the definition or meaning of the term in your paragraph. And, do number each of your 10 paragraphs when creating your project. The Organizational Behavior key terms and concepts are listed below: Effective Manager Human Capital Social Capital Cultural Intelligence Diversity Perception Self-Efficacy Attitude Emotional Intelligence Emotions Personality Self Concept Self-Monitoring Motivation Team Cohesiveness Trust Personality Conflicts Communications Competence Empowerment Servant Leadership

Select any one of those sectors (FEMA, USCG, etc.). Compare and contrast what was reported by DHS about that sector this year and last year. Why the difference(s)? What happened?I choose the US citizenship and immigration services. This subject is pretty important to be because I grew up on a big border city in west Texas. I have some family in Mexico and friends as well that are trying to get a citizenship. Recently in the past years many immigrant caravans have made their way to the southern border. Many of these immigrants aren’t Mexican but come from all over Latin American specify central America. The DHS has taken many steps to properly mange the immigration system to function better. “In 2016, the USCIS attempted to transition from a paper-based agency to incorporating a more tech savvy environment (DHS, 2016). By way of Electronic Immigration System (EIS), process was expected to move more expeditiously to cut down wait time of legal migration. Like other agencies, the USCIS relies on information sharing, however, it extends to different countries. The USCIS has agreed to implement different ways to promote National Security, one of which was to agree with multiple Visa Waiver Countries by abiding by rules to follow/track the number of missing passports. However, GAO’s analysis concluded that many countries were not following the agreement (DHS, 2016). Congress was recommended to take steps whether to increase timelines of reporting and time frames for information sharing agreements.During the 2017-2019 DHS Annual Performance Plan the DHS noted specific performance measures that were taken to ensure the USCIS continues to process immigrants efficiently. The EIS system improved to the myUSCIS, and online tool that was created to process up to date information for those looking to migrate through the immigration process (DHS, 2018). By providing more technology the USCIS was able to increase its technical assistance. According to the DHS (2018). The USCIS processed approximately over 8 million immigration benefit and citizenships. Which essentially created a backlog. The USCIS has plans to change there manning and resources to better processes overwhelming case volumes in the future.Department of Homeland Security. (2018). Select any one of those sectors (FEMA, USCG, etc). Compare and contrast what was reported by DHS about that sector this year and last year. Why the difference(s)? What happened?I decided to choose U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), as it aligns with my final paper topic. I also chose the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as it directly relates to my finale topic as well. Right off the bat after reading through the Annual Performance Report for 2016-2018, I noticed that TSA was mainly focused on the technology that is associated with the screening process that they use. They also were very focused on improving their risk-based security strategy. They were also concerned with more of the physical security of the actual airport instead of aircraft security. Customs and Border Protection had some similar but different areas that they highlighted in the 2016-2018 report. Biometrics technology was hit on a lot throughout this report for CBP. They were focused on getting new technology for unmanned aerial systems and other assets. The CBP faces long-standing challenges in developing a biometric exit system and reporting reliable overstay data (Annual Performance Report, 2016-2018).For the DHS FY 2018-2020 Annual Performance Report has some changes based on the ground that they covered since the last report. One of the main things that I noticed TSA was still focused still on was the screening processes the use. Improvements are needed to adapt aviation screening security procedures to match emerging threats to reduce the likelihood of terrorist attacks on aviation (Annual Performance Report, 2018-2020). Compared to the year 2017 and 2018, 45% of measures met their target and maintained or improved their actual results compared to the year prior. CBP’s risk assessments have changed but again, are similar in ways. The U.S. is currently encountering illegal immigration at the highest rates since 2007 and is experiencing an unprecedented surge of illegal alien families arriving at our border, along with Unaccompanied Alien Children (Annual Performance Report, 2018-2020). Another concern that was documented in the earlier report was the ability to maintain the manning they needed and to be able to adequately pay the officers. This was highlighted, but now is a top challenge that they are facing in the new report.-SeanDepartment of Homeland Security Annual Performance Report FY 2016-2018. (2018). I’m working on a chemistry report and need guidance to help me understand better.

Tasks:This exercise asks you to complete the followingTitle PageObjectiveWhat was the goal of this experiment? What data will you use to accomplished it?IntroductionDefine gram molar mass aka equivalent weight.Define titration. What is the purpose of a titration experiment? What is a primary standard? What was the primary standard in this experiment? (If you didn’t use a primary standard, indicate what it should have been)Why were there 2 standard solutions? That is, why wasn’t NaOH(aq) used as a primary standard for titrating the unknown acid? (If you didn’t use a primary standard, then explain why NaOH(aq) should be used as a primary standard. How would melting of a pure sample differ from melting of an impure sample? What is Ka? What is pKa? What does a high Ka mean? What does a high pKa mean? What is a buffer? For a weak acid, under what conditions will pH = pKa?Procedure ReferenceWhat changes were made to the published procedures? Results and CalculationsUse the results that were provided to you and clearly indicate your unknown number.Create (don’t copy the Excel tables) a table summarizing your major experimental data (i.e. gram molar mass, melting point, and pKa of monoprotic unknown acid). Show sample calculations.Summarize the gram molar mass, melting point, and pKa of your top monoprotic acids with percent error values. This is probably best done in table format.DiscussionState the identity of your unknown monoprotic acid from a https://drive.google.com/file/d/17IOycmrYZEcakufA6… by usingRemember to be quantitative, whenever possible. Discuss how you came to that conclusion using your average gram molar mass with standard deviation and average melting point range and pKa to justify your identification.Explain how you narrowed down the suspects and state your second choice and/or third choice, if appropriate and how they were eliminated.Be sure the discussion includes, how many standard deviations the actual molar mass of the acid you believe best represents your unknown is away from the experimental molecular mass of the acid. Also, does the actual melting point of your identified acid fall within the range of your experimental average melting points? Explain why or why not.Discuss the accuracy and precision of your average gram molar mass and melting point. (How do you quantify accuracy? How do you quantify precision?)Discuss any sources of error that may have occurred in the experiment. For example, if you added too much base to one of your titrations, you should identify how that would have affected your gram molar mass calculation. Would it increase or decrease?ConclusionEvaluate the objective of the experiment and restate the identity of your unknown acid, the average gram molar mass, the average melting point range, and the average pKa.Post Lab QuestionsSpreadsheetProvided Data
