Pros and Cons of Free Health Care

A free health care system ensures that everyone is treated equally, regardless of their socioeconomic situation. Costs associated with treatment, such as registration fees and consultation fees, are reduced when everyone has access to free health care. As a result, the cost of medications is reduced to a manageable level, which benefits the economy. Due to their competitive character in the economy, health care facilities are now recognized as businesses. In a non-competitive setting, free health care aims to meet the needs of the patients, not profits. In this way, the health care providers may provide their patients with quality and non-biased opinions and spend more time with them. Since the patients cannot contribute to the revenue levels of the health care system, they aren’t being ignored. As a result, health care costs are reduced. Management expenses are reduced because there is no contact with private insurers or third parties but with the government (Kandie, 2020). The hiring of staff members is also reduced, reducing the amount of money spent on paying for health care providers and boosting the saving sector, which improves the country’s economic situation.

As a result, free health care reduces the quality of services that patients receive. A chance to receive free treatment may encourage many people to use the available services, generating overcrowding in the health care system Patients must be removed from the system as quickly as possible without a proper diagnosis being made. As a result of not having to pay for their care, people become irresponsible. Taking care of one’s health is something that most individuals ignore because they know they will not be charged for treatment if they become unwell (Napit, 2020). People adopt a sedentary lifestyle, skipping workouts and healthy eating because they know they will receive the medical care they require if an emergency strikes.

There is a long waiting list for free healthcare. Because more patients are available when services are free, the health care industry tends to be busier. Patient scheduling and treatment within the normal time range of 3-4 weeks become difficult. Unnecessary delays put patients under extreme stress, causing some to ignore the process and never see a doctor to get diagnosed.
