Continuous Learning: “Tell me about at time you had to learn something totally new.” Hint: Detail the steps you took to learn and how you applied what you learned.

Situation/Task: I tried to understand not every person possesses a logical mind when I was young, although it did not make any sense to me. This seemed so because I was applying a logical mind during that age. My family’s religious portion solely believed in God over reasoning or logic all the time. I never understood why it was so.

Action: I tried to persuade them and talk to them about the logic in it, going slowly and step by step but what I did not understand was that, just because their mind set was different from mine, this did not justify the reason why they chose not to understand me and the reason why I did not understand them. So they came to explain to me that they did not require reasoning or logic because they have God.

Result: All in all, I came to understand that people did not make any sense. This made me come up with ka thumb rule, sometime down in the road it is, “chances are for every one person you do not agree with or understand, and there a five people just like them who did not understand me neither. Nobody understands everyone”.

Initiative: “Tell me about a situation that required you to take action to accomplish a task without being told to do so.” Hint: Explain the steps you took from beginning to end in order to accomplish the task.

Situation/Task: I never liked high school because I was poor in making friends due to my blunt opinions. So I decided that I should graduate in three years instead of four years.

Action: In order to graduate early, I had to take classes over the summer, schedule bigger course loads for the normal school year and keeping up my GPA above 3.5, I got a 3.9.

Result: I took extra credits ahead of time and this made me graduate one year ahead of my original class.

Communication: “I’d like to hear about a time you and a colleague had a disagreement and how you handled it.” Hint: Explain your approach and how you worked with your colleague(s) to resolve the problem.

Situation/Task: I and my colleague were in a chemistry lab and he wanted to perform a qualitative experiment and I wanted to perform a quantitative one. The only time which was available was for performing one experiment.

Action: Politely I reminded him I volunteered to be a leader so we should do it my way if he desired to be a leader, he should have raised his hand and we could have reached consensus but I did not have to.

Result: I and my colleague ended up performing the quantitative experiment instead of his qualitative experiment.
